I am sure I was not the only one last fall who took the opportunity to walk along the shoreline. Just in our area alone there were enough glass beer bottles to supply all visitors to Chimney Rock for many 4ths to come. I guess those of us who "throw" before we "think" , or just don't care - out of sight; out of mind - think that one bottle won't hurt anything. However, it took us the better part of two days to just clean up our area, much less other parts of the lake. I couldn't even identify some of the things I saw. I am sure others had the same experience. (I could identify at least two hot water heaters, a recliner, something that looked sort of like a stove, and several of the old half barrels people used to grill on) We should start a list of "finds".

Last summer, a patio boat pulled up and anchored in the cove to have a picnic. They stayed about an hour, swam, etc. and their kids were having a great time. It was fun to watch. However, as they were leaving, I watched them throw the corn husks of at least a dozen ears, several paper plates and plastic drink bottles over the side! Trash floated into our dock and others for over an hour. A whole trash bag full. This is an cove that is full of cabins and homes, not some isolated area. We have been on this lake since 1954 and I never observed anything quite that selfish. Unbelievable!
Please everyone, as we all get ready for a good summer, brush up on the boating "rules of the road" even if you think you don't need it and please take your trash back home with you-don't leave it for someone else to clean up. It is a public lake - not a dumpster.

Remember Sterling Big Mouth beer bottles--found several. Also found three of my socket wrenches, couple of box ends, a pair of my glasses and my cell phone that went swimming a couple of years ago.

In the early 80's, my dad, a normally very even tempered man, and my husband were working on some plumbing repairs. Dad's hacksaw blade kept falling out, and in an unusual fit of temper, he flung the thing into the lake( along with a few rare curse words!) The following year when the water was down for the winter, he found the rusted hacksaw , laughed about the situation and hummed it as far as he could and said" Now that sucker's gone forever!.
We lost dad eight years ago this month, but this fall were amazed to find the hacksaw!. It brought back great memories and this time we kept it.
Think I'll frame the thing this time!

whether it's feast or famine the warm waters are remembered fondly and yes, some of us are slow but as I stated when I knew not the lake levels love of the lake and the people find cause and good reason for Geno to jump. Life like the lake has many surprises and if one tells me to jump I know where my heart lies. As well kindred spirits of loved ones. Okay here's to the lakes summer rise. peace.

isn't there a LAW aganist littering, why don't you call the marine police when you SEE someone trashing the lake instead of taking it?

More on "Rights". What you choose to view as "Trash" if more than 50 years old fall under the Code of Alabama Section 41-9-291 and Section 41-9-297.

So, you may have been not just performing a good deed, but in the process also breaking the law....

I can relate to the cell phone part. It would be a wild story if I said I turned it one and it worked. But that's all it would be, a story. Now the reason it got into the water in the first place...<grin>
