I'm pi$$ed. I am a weekender. My garbage pick-up is Monday so, consequentially, I am not there when they are supposed to pick up my garbage. Three of the last 4 weeks they have not picked up my garbage. I called to complain and they say I must notify them within 3 days of the pick-up date and they will schedule a pick-up. I explained that this was unacceptable because I don't know they didn't pick up until I get there Friday, which is 4 days. I asked for 3/4 of a months rebate and she basically told me to go pound rocks...... or something similar. What's a weekender to do? LTL, would you be willing to stand guard every Monday for a beer or 2?

.... but I am not much of a beer drinker. And besides, I don't live anywhere near the lake, remember. I also don't have any boats or cars so travel is rather difficult, since my transporter broke down. I have a new flux capicitor ordered, but it is back order and is expcted to ship about 2564.

Try calling your county commisioner and complaining to them. They are the ones that let the contract for the 'service'. Explain to them that you will start to leave your trash at the street, next to the full can that has not been emptied.

Call them and say you saw rats picking at the garbage because it has not been picked up. Tell them unless they get out there right away and pick it up when they are suppose to, you are going to call the health department and report it. Rats always gets the attention of the health department. That should do it.

It is and they do. I can't believe I can't at least get a refund and I don't think anyone else serves this area. I'm screwed I tell ya.

News of your knightly status has traveled around the lake and surrounding areas. Us "commoners" are not worthy to set foot on or around your lake property. Some of us are still to busy "eating our hearts out."

I prefer Kingly status and noone needs to step on my property to pick up my trash. As far as the "Eat your heart out," I would like to repeat that for this weekend as well. Now, back to the fields, peasant.

I can assure you that for a few beers LTL will stand guard.......at least as far as you know. :-) Of course the real problem is that he will fill up your trash can with empties which will defeat the purpose of his oversight role.

Do you have any year-round neighbors that can check when they drive by and send you an email if they miss a pickup? At least then you can call within 3 days and request a return. Alternatively, you can call every Tuesday requesting a pickup. I suspect they will eventually put some oil on the squeaky hinge and tell their guys not to miss your place.

Considering you pay year round but are only there on the weekends and off an on during the winter they should value your business........what am I saying?!?!?

I guess since they don't pickup your garbage - you don't have to worry about them throwing your trash can and breaking the wheels and lid off of it. And, then have to wait 3-weeks to get a /replacement/repaired trash can - while all the wildlife gets their fill of your leftovers and leaves the things they can't or won't eat on your lawn and in your garage.

I really don't have a dog in this fight. Especially since I'm 3 counties and a whole different company away. But I had the same situation a month ago with my garbage service.

On a rare day off, I went to their office and spoke with everyone there that would listen. After I finally agreed to pay them for a year in advance I made it to the branch manager. He assured me with his personal cell phone number that it would not happen again. If it does, call him direct anytime day or night. They haven't missed since but like I said, it's only been a little over a month.

And we do kinda look out for each other. I have one neighbor that is full time but not in the best of health. I'm really a part timer but get there at least weekely and the other neighbor travels a lot. We basically just operate on the principle that whoever sets the cans out, gets all 3 at once.

Good luck,
<><

I need to start "service" again. Does anyone know who serves the Bay Pine area now that Sunflower does not? thanks,

I had Sunflower but, I think Advanced bought them so, that's probably who services the area. Hate to bother my neighbors but, that may be an appropriate approach. Although LTL won't work for beer, I have one fulltimer I know will work for a few Miller Lites.

The link below hopefully will take you to the contacts page of their website. I had success a couple of years ago by e-mailing the head honcho guy in Tallassee and copying to the same in Jacksonville, FL. The Atkinson guy listed first in Jacksonville is the same one I emailed before. The website is the same as when it was Sunflower ...onlyl a name change....also important phone numbers listed. Things will not improve until people begin to worry about keeping their job....good to mention that you will take it to commissioners if necessary.

I have the same problem and have been down B#**ch street with Sunflower. Because they did not pick up our trash as scheduled we had to put excess in other recepticles. When they came to pick up trash (3 weeks old) they refused to dumep the other recepticles they said they only picked up theirs. They suck and the county commissioner needs to hear about it. Do not waste your time with who answers the phone...go up the ladder. That is how we got some response.

We had Sunflower and they were bought out like Lamont noted.
They were awful. We would arrive on a Friday night and spend 1/2 hour picking up dirty diapers and leftover food from the previous weekend because they had not picked up on Wed. When we called, the "girl" said, "They don't like your road cause' it's too steep and they ain't nowheres to turn around." Really. She said that. As a whole, services around the lake suck for the most part. We have found a few really honest people to work on our place but they are few and far between. Some are just looking to screw you blind. We have imported many contractors from our area, (Fayetteville, GA) to work on our place because we know and trust them. It may cost us more, but it's better that paying twice to complete a project.

The reason there is no service is because there is not competition. Our commissioners create a monopoly by negotiating with the vendor on our behalf. Open this service to individual negotiations and guess what? You get to choose.

At the January 14, 2008 regular meeting of the Tallapoosa County Commission, the subject of poor service provided by Advanced Waste Disposal was presented to the Commissioners by Stan Gillies. Their response was that they were aware of the problem and could not get any cooperation from Advanced Disposal. See link.

When everything is said and done, there's usually lots more said, than done!

How is that they have to 'check the contract'? A contrat means that both sides have to perform. They have to pick up garbage, 'we' have to pay them. The commisioners say they have had the same issues and/or had complaints of gabage not being picked up. I can promise you that if a government entity were not involved, the contract would have been canelled already. NO private entity would continue to pay for a service they weren't recieving.

I sonder what ever happened to the law suit that Waste Mangement filed when they were tossed out and Sunflower given the contract a few years ago. The whole deal 'shady' to begin with

My service is just great. They are here every week abou the same time too.

Why do you fell that you can't leave the can out when you leave? When I was a weekender I just left the can out with a bungee on the lid to keep out the dogs. Usually some nice neighbor would return the can to the house but if they didn't that was OK too.

the problem is they figure out we are partimers and do not come by house at all. I have had garbage waiting to be picked up for three consecutive weeks. They pull the "if we would have known" trick. I pay for weekly pickup. They should stop by weekly regardless if I have trash or not.
