We vacation at the lake every Memorial Day weekend and was wondering about the route we take to get there.

We're in Jackson, MS and usually go up to B'ham and down 280. The hills are obviously tough pulling boats and such. Is the coming through Selma and Prattville a better route for pulling?

I would definitely come straight through to Prattville. It's much shorter and the pulling should be easier too.

I haven't been that way in several years but I remember it being several small towns that you drive through. Pretty flat for the most part. I just don't remember much in the way of Gas Stations and Restaurants. I'm traveling with three kids and a wife, I've got to have places to stop!!

I will be slower driving, but you will get here faster. There are several towns and places to stop that you should find suitable.

I have used US 80 many times on my way to and from the lake (I used to live in Dallas). US 80 is 4 lane almost the entire length from Alabama border (Cuba) to Montgomery. The two lane is in the first leg at the border to the west side of Demopolis. There are some mild hills but nothing that bad.

Good deal. That's my route then. I hate getting on 280 at The Summit. When we first started visiting the lake in the mid 80's it was 2 lane from the bypass all the way down! Now it's a freakin' nightmare through there.
