PWC should be ban on summer weekends. Just to protect PWC riders from themselves.
There are now too many boats on the summer weekends and the people riding the PWC's are the most at risk.
I own three or the things and never rite them on weekends.

I bet the number of PWCs have doubled since the summer of 06'. We've been wondering if because of gas prices, have people have traded in there 75ft long cigarette boats for these little crotch rockets. One thing I do know is 06 was nowhere near the chaos as 08. Can't say I would ban them on weekends all together though.

Just as others have predicted on the this forum, this may be the beginning of another boat ban. Some of you have said that the boat ban will not stop with the "big boats" and now you see complaints of even the smallest of boats. Once it starts, it's hard to stop. I don't think some of the people living on the lake would be happy if they had the entire lake to themselves. Or do they just like to complain and are not capable of being happy? How sad!
Thank the good Lord most are not that way........ Are they? :-)

The root problem is rarely the size or speed of the vessel; it's that too many operators seem to lose all common courtesy, common decency and common sense once the vessel is underway.
Regarding PWCs in particular, something I read here long ago stuck with me and still makes the most sense: think of a PWC as a floating version of a motorcycle. Motorcycles are a fun and fuel-efficient way to travel. But there is no way anyone would expect to be able to ride a motorcycle back and forth in front of my house all day long, and to do donuts in my front yard; what makes them think it's OK to do the same on a PWC in front of my lakehouse?

Most of the bad riders are the young kids. It is just a product of being young. You should have seen me on one when I was young. Young people do the same thing in cars or motorcycles. More kids just have PWCs available to them. Even if you educate a young person they are still going to take risks and do something stupid. You just hope they don't kill someone or themselves. A lot parents also have the "not my kid syndrome" or don't even care how they act on the PWCs. Maybe a higher age limit would help. Unfortunatly it will take a few accidents and deaths for something to change. There is no doubt that it is becoming more of a problem.

I've been on the lake every weekend and have yet to have an incident with a PWC. There are many, but I just go about my way and they manuver around me. I have one and they are fun...even for a 43 yr old. Maybe I've just been lucky not to have any incidents.

One of the problems that arises with the young riders is they get very close to you when jumping your wake even when you have children behind your boat on a tube. They do not seem to realize the danger that if a person fell out of the tube that they would be right on top of them. The only solution is to stop and let your wake die down and hopefully they will move on to someone else. At least you will protect those who you are towing.

PWC's are a nuisance, sure. The same could be said for runabouts, wakeboats, or really any other boat. Nobody is actually suggesting we ban any of these from the lake, just venting their frustration with some boaters who exhibited poor boat etiquette. No worries.

Ban the big boat, ban the little boat, ban the seadoos, ban the weekend warriors, ban the swings, ban the slalom courses, ban the loud music, ban the bonfires, ban the beers, ban the fishing boats, ban the children, ban the lakeside restaurants where people have fun, make the government bigger and live to die! Ha!

Please, please, please DO NOT ban PWC's. My dog LOVES to ride the jet ski - sits up front with her life jacket on and a big smile!!! She would be very disappointed if she couldn't ride anymore. She would have to ride the tube. She doesn't like it as much because she can't go as fast!

My lab also likes to ride on the wave runner. Haven't tried a tube yet, but will this summer.

Be careful with the dog. If I remember correctly (I may have it mixed up with another accident), the woman from Newnan GA had a dog on board, was distracted, and hit a dock in the fatal accident from 2 summers ago.
