Do we need to get an approval from ALPC if we plan to remodel our pier next winter? It will not be any larger. We're just going to add a set of steps and fill in an area. Thanks!

I think that if you add anything that touches the lakebed you have to have a permit.

I have seen others add steps, benches etc. without a permit, but I know that you can't modify the dock square footage without a permit.

Personal experience. Get the permit!!
Unless you are planning major changes to your dock, the permit is easy to get and free. Careful with moving dirt in or out of the lake dockside. The rules seem a bit vague to me.
Get the permit. It is good for 12 months from issue.

Check to be sure, but they implemented a permit fee of $250.00 effective January 2007. Still have 12 months for completion of job.

I have heard folks say APC was hard to work with. We had a good experience with them when we requested a permit to extend our dock and install a boat lift. Everyone we talked to was friendly, helpful and willing to spend time with us to answer any questions we had.

The permit fee of $250 will seem real cheap if you do not obtain one and they catch you making the improvements. I do not think you need a permit for remodeling (replacing decking and the like) but the steps may be teh trigger.

I had to get a permit to add a floating dock for a PWC.
