I am looking for input from those who are happy or unhappy with what they have. I want a pump that works well when the lake is 10 feet down and can pump 700 feet distance with a vertical climb of about 60' feet. I've researched the data on several brands and models, but some consumer testimonials would also be useful. Thanks.
Also, if someone knows of a good plumbing supply center near the south west side of the lake, I'd like to know. I want to buy 20' lengths of class 200 PVC; Russell, Home Depot, and Lowe's do not carry it.

Don’t know the brand since I’m not at the lake now, but I have a 1 ½ hp unit that I bought from Home Depot. Lowe’s has the same type units, but a different manufacturer. It has a 220 v motor and works like a charm. Last year, as the water dropped, I just kept adding intake pipe (1 ½ “ sch. 40 pvc). I must have spliced into it and added three different times. It would take longer to prime each time, but low and behold, it picked up a prime each time. I watered from the lake all summer. I have a flat lot and don’t have a 60 foot vertical climb, but feel certain it would do it.

Thanks. I have looked at those pumps and I'm considering them. My lot is fairly flat from the lake and past the house, but then I have about 500 feet of driveway that slowly climbs about 40 feet. I'm a little concerned about having pressure at the top. I'm considering stronger pumps or possibly watering the top with city water. The specks lead me to believe the 2HP pump at Lowe's will probably handle it if I only use a few heads at the top.

Call Sable Steel in Montgomery. Ask for Louie. They sale commercial pumps and irrigation supplies (sprinkler heads, pipes, timer, etc), and the price is similar to HD and Lowes. Louie is very knowledegable.

I know nothing about water pumps, but wouldn't having two identical pumps work? One at water level and one 30 to 40 foot upline? (verticle). I could imagine the only way this would work is if you shut off all valves between the two pumps?

Just purchased from Home Depot a 1 hp water pump. Paid $225. Using 1.5" PVC pipe for foot valve to pump. I have attached water hoses and sprinklers (don't have an underground system) and the pump provides plenty of water for these three. I am lifting water about 25 feet above the lake level.

You might consider a check valve as you start the up hill run just to help the system hold a prime, but of course you also have to install a seperate drain just above it for winterizing.
