Here is a post I ran accross this post on City Data forums. I have not heard anything about this incident. Does anyone know what part of the lake this happened? This incident happened last month.

Daughter bitten by moccasin when swimming at lake Martin

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want all parents to be aware when letting children swim in the lake. My daughter spent 3 days in children's hospital with snake bite. We understand that when there is water there are snakes, but everyone should be aware that snakes enjoy the lake also. We as adults should take precautions to make sure our children are as safe as they can be. Make sure they wear water shoes. Our daughter was bitten while swimming. Make sure your child understands not to swim in shallow areas around the edge or seawall. Most of all make sure your child knows what a poisonous snake looks like. I know this is was an accident and will probably never happen again, but it still will be on my mind everytime my child jumps into the water; an experience I never want to go through again. Thank you, to all the great doctors and nurses at Baptist south and children's hospital, as well as the air traansport team.

I don't know where it happened, but it could be anywhere as these snakes are all around the lake. They are usually more abundant in uninhabited areas, but are not uncommon around docks, boathouses, and rip rap. I'm usually on the lake during the week when things are calm, and see them occasionally.

Just read an article about a girl that was bitten in a creek (sounds like in Troy) by a water moccasin over 1 year ago. The story was how well she has recovered and actually won a national dance competition 2 weeks after she was bitten. This was in the Montgomery Advertiser so I wonder if this was the basis of the story.
