WSFA in Montgomery reported this morning on the terrible drowning of a fisherman in the Tallapoosa in Elmore County. However, they did not give the location. I suspect from the pictures that it occurred below the Martin dam where the current can be swift and the rocks are slick. I have fished on the bank there a lot for stripers when the turbines are running, and it can be quite dangerous. A life jacket is warranted even if one is fishing on the bank.
