The State of Alabama needs more money for their budget since they can't ever get a balanced budget. They are starting on Monday with their week long campaign of ticketing and speed traps. Just wanted to remind everyone to try and keep your money in your pocket. This campaign does nothing but pad their pockets. I see more problems created by the campaigns than I see good.

Obey the law and it's not a problem.

...less wrecks and less deaths.

You do know that was the result last go-round?

FYI-They passed a law that state you cannot travel in the right hand lane if an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road. However they did not run advertisement stating this is a law or if they did it was short lived and very little. . They do not give you an update of any laws when you renew your drivers license.( This would be EASY with todays technology. They update you by giving you a ticket for something that you have not been notified about.
The law states that you do not have to move to the left lane if you feel it is a hazard and you should just reduce speed.
I watch them set up a trap and give tickets for people in the right lane. Then they were not allowed to pay the fine on line. They are required a court date. You must then return to court on a different date if you protest the ticket They then charge an additional fee of $100. Thus the ticket cost $230. I have talked to a couple of families caught up in the sting and they cannot afford the gas back and forth much less the ticket or the court cost to fight the ticket.
Did you see how much revenue was made off the whole process? I call it fleecing the tax payers.

Now the State education system wants to buy out the Jefferson County Sewage mess, but wants them to file bankruptcy first and burn the companies without standing debt. Take a tour in Montgomery and they will point out all the buildings that are owned by the State Retirement System and are rented back to the State Government. Don't, take me wrong. The School Retirement System is looking after their own in a good way, but the State has gotten the taxpayers in a situation of being "renter" at the tax payers expense. The State should not be "renting" their buildings. We should own them!I am entitled to an opinion since this is America. Feel free to agree or disagree. Have a good day. Off to earn some dollars for taxation.

I watch very little local news and I saw the new law discussed several times. One of my co-workers got ticketed for it and went to court. The officer was there so they were able to have the hearing then instead of postponing it. The officer testified that he believed the driver could have gotten over to the left lane and the driver testified he could not. Judge dismissed the charges but the driver still had to pay $150 in court costs but he got no points assessed to his record.

Here is the interesting part - the officer was the same officer that was seriously injured during a traffic stop that was the reason the law was passed.

I have my share of tickets but I have always moved over to the left lane when passig a stopped police car - just makes sense.

In an ideal world the State would own all its buildings. But in a world run by politicians, the State used to rent run-down buildings from the political connected at premium prices. When the State did build a building, it ended up with the ridiculous Gordon Persons Building, aka the Missing Persons Building. Better to pay rent to the Retirement Systems than the politicians friends. And better for the Retirement Systems to invest money here in Alabama than in New York. Downtown Montgomery looks less like the dump it was 15 years ago.

Getting in the opposite lane of emergency vehicles is just plain common sense. I've been doing it for years. Ignorance is no excuse.

I saw a lot of information about the law to move out of the lane nearest a stopped emergency vehicle. Just makes sense to me. Have always moved over. I think it is more about safety than making money.

Speed traps or the common sense move of giving emergency vehicles room to work...no, just survive?

You're first post was about speed traps and the blitz this coming week.

Then you rant about other things.

Tell ya what...slow down and move over.

Plenty of folks know about that law.

I did and I don't read the newspaper or watch local news...yet somehow I knew.

I aggree with green,ed. I've been preaching to my kids for years....drive the speed limit and you probably won't get a ticket. I usuallycheat by 3 or 4 MPH on the interstates.

The trouble is they are "traps" they usually are set up at the bottom of a hill and the speed changes from 65 to 55. Nuts.

I am glad you will not drive over the speed limit. Just stay in the right lane so the rest of us do not have to pass you on the right.

I just hate it when someone thinks just because they are driving exactly the speed limit they think they can park in the left lane and make others go around them.

It is a proven fact that slow drivers cause more accidents that fast drivers. They are a hazard on the highways and there should be tickets for under the speed limit as well as over.

...I said above I have had my share of tickets..more than my share.

So, you go on and speed around me next week....you'll see.

I didn't believe em last time...until I saw all sorts of folks pulled over.

Again, for the hard-headed...less wrecks....less deaths...what's the problem?

Slow drivers cause many more accidents than fast drivers. I am not talking reckless drivers, just those that drive a bit over a speed limit. faster drivers are normally more comfortable behind the wheel and in control. The slow driver does not stay to the right, changes lanes without looking and causes others to have to maneuver around them as they back up traffic which causes a serious hazzard.

So you drive how you want and stop being like Obama and telling people how they should live their life.

...telling folks how to live.

Really, do you see what you type before you hit the button?

Again, I am a fast driver...got the tickets to prove it.

Did you read that this time?

But...this coming week, if you drive fast and troopers get ya....you're getting a ticket for sure.

And they'll have all available troopers out doing it, too.

Go ahead...speed.

I talked to them this weekend and we were discussing the details. They were pulling a trailer that had a washer/dryer and refrigerator on it. They came over the hill and there they were. You had to make a quick decision to switch lane and risk shifting the load or just slow down. They slowed down and he came after them for the $240 ticket including court cost. That is what got this whole conversation started.
We ALL know that it is common sense to pull to the right and give ANY car some room while changing a tire, or getting a ticket.
The point is that they do it in mass for the revenue and then they court process is so backwards that you have to make two trips to deal with the ticket if you feel you were within the law. That is where I see the scam come in play. Most just pay the ticket.
