Have to put my dog down today; 14 year old golden retriever.....best dog I ever owned. Will sprinkle ashes on lake.....she loved the lake as much as I do. Tough day.....

I am sad for and with you. Remember the good times and the good life you provided.

I have had to do this several times, and it is sooo sad. But it is also our responsibility to not let them suffer, un-necessarily. If they can't enjoy playing, eating, pooping, and playing again........

Well, we can't let them suffer.

My heart and prayers are with you and Gracie.

Smitty, my heart goes out to you. My Max died about a month ago while at the lake. He was diagnosed with cancer on a Wednesday and died on Saturday. At least he was at the lake, his favorite place on earth and I got to hold him for pretty much that whole Saturday. He was only 9 and it still tears me up.

The decision to put him down was taken out of my hands and for that I am grateful. I had to put my lab down a few years back and it was very hard but the look of peace she had when it was over made it a bit better.

I know your pain and again my thoughts are with you.

I too am sad for and with you. When we get pets we all know that day will come but it doesn't make it any easier. For a lot of folks dogs and cats are just like family members. I have a Siberian Husky and a black Lab that are both a little over 11 years old. I know that day will come all too soon for them and boy do I dread it.

I guess all we can do is take some time to remember all of the great memories they provide us and then go get another one.

I, too, have had one of those 'tough days'....my prayers are with you, Smitty.

We have a 10 month Golden who knows where she is when we cross the bridge south of the dam. Lives in the water until we leave. Rides the waverunner with our children, first in the boat when we go cruising. You certainly provided heaven on earth for your pet for these fourteen years. Sad day for sure, but go and get another!!

I agree with Council Roc Doc. I have been a dog lover since birth and have been through this more times than I like to recall. It always hurts but if you measure the joy they give you over the years, it's worth it. There are so many good dogs that need homes. Give yourself some time to grieve and then get another to help fill that void.

I am your dog, and I have a little something I'd like to whisper in your
ear. I know that you humans lead busy lives. Some have to work, some
have children to raise. It always seems like you are running here and
there, often much too fast, often never noticing the truly grand things
in life. Look down at me now, while you sit there at your computer. See
the way my dark brown eyes look at yours? They are slightly cloudy now.
That comes with age. The gray hairs are beginning to ring my soft
muzzle.

You smile at me; I see love in your eyes. What do you see in mine? Do
you see a spirit? A soul inside, who loves you as no other could in the

world? A spirit that would forgive all trespasses of prior wrong doing
for just a simple moment of your time? That is all I ask. To slow down,
if even! for a few minutes to be with me. So many times you have been
saddened by the words you read on that screen, of others of my kind,
passing. Sometimes we die young and oh so quickly, sometimes so suddenly
it wrenches your heart out of your throat. Sometimes, we age so slowly
before your eyes that you may not even seem to know until the very end,
when we look at you with grizzled muzzles and cataract clouded eyes.
Still the love is always there, even when we must take that long sleep,
to run free in a distant land.

I may not be here tomorrow; I may not be here next week. Someday you
will shed the water from your eyes, that humans have when deep grief
fills their souls, and you will be angry at yourself that you did not
have just "One more day" with me. Because I love you so, your sorrow
touches my spirit and grieves me. We have NOW, together. So come, sit
down here next to me on the floor, and look deep into my eyes. What do
you see? If you look hard and deep enough we will talk, you and I, heart
to heart. Come to me not as "alpha" or as "trainer" or even "Mom or
Dad," come to me as a living soul and stroke my fur and let us look deep
into one another's eyes, and talk.

I may tell you something about the fun of chasing a tennis ball, or I
may tell you something profound about myself, or even life in general.
You decided to have me in your life because you wanted a soul to share
such things with. Someone very different from you, and here I am. I am a
dog, but I am alive. I feel emotion, I feel physical senses, and I can
revel in the differences of our spirits and souls. I do not think of you
as a "Dog on two feet" -- I know what you are. You are human, in all
your quirkiness, and I love you still.

Now, come sit with me, on the floor. Enter my world, and let time slow
down if only for 15 minutes. Look deep into my eyes, and whisper to my
ears. Speak with your heart, with your joy and I will know your true
self. We may not have tomorrow, and life is oh so very short.

We had to put down Rush, a Dalmatian, on January 1, 2003. Hate to say it, but that broke me up more than when I have lost relatives. We adopted a puppy August 12, 2006 - everyone says she is pure Golden Retriever. It took quite a while before we were ready to get another dog, but the good times are certainly worth the pain. Maizy also loves the lake, will retrieve until you get tired of throwing her toys, then walk back and forth on the ramp "fishing". When I toast Rush this weekend, I will also raise a glass for Gracie.

Here it is Robert.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I believe that all of our beloved pet wil join us in heaven. The Bible teaches that there will be animals there.

I fully understand where you are. Only time will help and heal // keep the memories. We have the same stress level reduction as soon as we cross the dam.

lost two dogs at a very old age and own two . Have been heartbroken everytime an animal comes to the end of their life. Found a little one several weeks ago at the lake who was shot in the neck with an air riffle. I have had her spade, and taken care of all shots. No animal can replace what you lost, but there are other little ones who need a kind caring home ....that they have never had.
