"Drought continues its grip on Alabama". That is what I see on the front page of this website. Kind of a funny headline after what Fay brought us.

It looks funny or seems strange at this point, but that was an Alabama Power press release on the 21st. Dought severity classifications are evaluated on a twelve-month rainfall deficit scale. There is a U.S. Dought Monitor that graphically illustrates this measurement (run by USDA and NOAA). The link below shows the current Alabama detail. They publish a new map every Tuesday so we'll see improvements tomorrow.

With that being said... I see that Alabama is getting another gully washer today!

The drought monitor was updated this week and the Tropical Storm Fay changed Lake Martin's status from "Extreme Drought" to "Abnormally Dry".
