I am moving into a house up 34 above Stillwaters. The house is 3 years old and the small subdivision it is in is just as new. I have called everyone, and when you mention it is a Dadeville address no one claims they provide internet in that area.

Charter doesn't serve dadeville
Att (bellsouth) doesn't provide DSL to this address
ComLink doesn't serve dadeville

Who else might provide an internet connection? (I'll look into satellite once physical connections possibilities are exhausted)

Just called the dadeville chamber, they told me to call Communicomm. Called them and they don't service my area either.

I'm not sure where on 34 you are, but Charter cable does offer internet to most of the areas. Have you checked with a neighbor to see what they have?

I live in StillWaters and have AT&T phone service. They provide internet access to anyone with a phone. Also, have Charter cable and they provide internet with that too (such as it is).

I have cable service and internet at Max/Gunter Rec Area (just down the road from you) through Charter. Once you get it connected you are ok, but getting them out there to do it can be a challenge.

Thanks for the Info. I went ahead and subscribed to Dish Network because it is so far out to get them up there to set it up (almost a month from now). However, I am going to try to get Charter to take a look and see if they can get it setup.

They are asking me for roads around that area that have service. LL, what is your street name?

Where are you located? We just moved into a place off of Wildwood Road (off 34). Small neighborhood also. Had the same issue - no cable service, no high speed dsl. Only internet available is at&t - dial up, Hughes Network via satellite, or cell phone wifi. Have heard that at&t has the high speed cable running right past our neighborhood to the next neighborhood. They haven't ran the cable to our little area because there are only a few houses (10 or so) - not feasible. I'm thinking about making a pitch to at&t as to why our neighborhood should be serviced.

Someone regulate these providers? I think that Charter has an exclusive license to cable distribution and should serve the area. 34 is not exactly in the boonies either and It sounds like Charter is not there yet. I think I'd make a trip to the county courthouse and start asking some questions..

After getting your information (and I guessed on the air force road after looking at a map) and riding around noticing that the houses across the slough had cable, I called charter yesterday and gave them these street names and after much debate they finally agreed to send someone by today to see if cable would be available to our neighborhood.

It is kinda ironic, because as I was pulling out of our neighborhood while surveying for cable and a Charter van came by and I followed it and it turned down Air Force road.

BTW, I am moving in Moutainview Way which is off of Civitan Rd.

I never received an email, so I am not sure what happened to it, please resend it.

The Charter Technician went out to the house today and check it out. When I called charter they said the technician simply noted "unserviceable" and left no further information. So, even though I can stand on my back deck and throw a rock and hit a house with cable, I can't get cable myself.

This is about as frustrating and stressful as it gets, and I was moving to the lake to slow down a bit and relax ;)

Like I said ...I'd take a trip to the courthouse. Some authority grants Charter the exclusive license for cable service in the county - I would think-I could be wrong- but that's how it operates in other areas.

Don't know where you are relocating from, but, in the last 15 years the Lake Martin Community has "Developed??" along the same lines as the big city, a little later, but, the same impact.
15 years ago on LM, that would be the "Pre-WalMart Era", you could actually:
- Speak to a Bellsouth/APC employee in Alex City!! In person.
- Find a special part in a local hardware store
- Expect a cordial appreciation for the money you spend here.
Do not expect anything to be different here from a big city atmosphere, because it is getting closer every day.
LM is still the best of the best, as long as it lasts. Just get in your boat and cruise before sunset, and relax.

Called ATT again to see how the determined availability. According to the woman I talked to, DSL is available to the house, but they only allow a certain number of DSL customers per area and they have reached the max in that area so no new "slots" are available to customers.

So, I am on the waiting list to get DSL. I might try another company to see if they can offer it in that area.
