Below 5 ft down. Have I missed something or wasn't it supposed to be held at 5 ft???

Nope, there is no variance in place to maintain the lake level above the historical 480'.

Also no variance in place to begin raising the lake level before Feb15th,

Winter pool is still 480

I remember reading in a LMRA mailout (even before the drought last year) that they had a goal to get winter pool to 483' Since that had the backing of BR I thought it might take hold, but will have to wait for new regs to be adopted.

In any event, the level seems to be holding longer this fall, or it may just be looking SO GOOD compared to last year

Did I just dream that? I thought there was a temporary variance for one year that was announced last year.

Variance only valid through April 2008

As bad as I hate to say it, I think we need to keep the winter levels down for the businesses who build walls and ramps. I know for a fact that I could never rebuild, or repair my wall without the water going to the 480 mark. But there again its all about what you need and want.

is NEVER to see the water line 100 yards out from my dock! Ever again!
I think the 483' variance rule and early fill schedule last spring was a good attempt to buffer our current drought weather cycle. It worked!
Here's hoping that the Winter Rains come as expected this year, and we can repeat the 2008 Lake Season forever.

What good was that?

Ramps and sea walls are built on lakes with very little fluctuation; there are different methods of getting the job done, but it's not a problem. If Lake Martin only dropped 5-7 feet every year, very little would change in the way they are built here.

It filled us up this year!! History has shown us that the rain we need to hold is coming in Jan and Feb but we can't plug her up till mid Feb. I just hope we get there next year without the variance.

Thanks Swimmer and you are right I hope we fill her up as well. As really no significant rain except for Fay otherwise no telling where we would be today. One thing for sure below 484.81 without a doubt.

I think the cost and ability to do the work yourself without hiring for special methods and equipment might be a factor.. let it go down so I can finish the work I started last year and couldn't finish before the water came up.

You will have 10 feet to work with this year and at least a few more years.
