Have a name and phone # of a reasonable human being with more than 1/2 a brain at Charter. These people are incredible. Would appreciate the help. Or, should I just let it go to Collections?

Have you tired going to their office at 1155 Cherokee Road, Alexander City? I assume it is still open. I have has success working out issues in person.

Had a huge issue with Charter in another city years ago. Tried the online and phone stuff for a while, then finally went to the local office and got my problem handled in less than 5 minutes. The phone way isn't the best one with them. I reported them to the FCC. That was a lot of fun, lol.

Got nowhere. Has to do with the special they ran in August for dsl, 14.99 for the first 6 months. The girl at Alex City told me that was an entirely different group and she couldn't do anything. I showed her the mailer from Charter but, she held the line. I have called and talked to at least 8 people and got nowhere. I am about to stroke out.

In person may help .... but if they are threatening collection on you for their error, here is a sure fire way to fix it. Take their collection letter, write a polite letter back that explains the problem and attach the ad you reference. Tell them that their letters are considered "harrassment" (you need to say that) and since there is an obvious disconnect and you will not be paying the amount due so you suggest that either they correct their records or proceed to immediately take this to court to resolve. Additionally, you need to tell them that if they report any negative information to a credit agency prior to a court hearing is a violation of the fair credit standards and you will hold them responsible for the erroneous reporting and the damage it may cause you.

Be polite and don't threaten ... just state the facts and expectations, but while still making the necessary points since the letter could wind up in court (but highly unlikely).

You need to send it certified mail with a return receipt. That will normally get it in to the right hands and resolved very quickly.

If you tell them that notices are harrassment, by law they can not send them any more. they also can not turn it over to collections or report it to a credit agency if you request that it immediately goes to court. This was added to protect consumers when the company is wrong. Companies normally look closer at it and back down since they don't want to spend the money to go to court and they don't want to lose where it would be public and even have to pay you for your costs to resolve and anything the court may award as punitive to punish Charter.

My daughter just passed the Bar and is an unemployed Lawyer. This could be her 1st case.
