I'm looking for a GPS unit for my dad to use on Lake Martin. Are there any units that have detailed (and reliable) mapping of depth, shoreline, points of interest, etc.? Any information and experiences are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I think Marks Outdoors or Outdoormens in Birmingham, I beleive had this type of gps system. They are on Montgomery Highway in Vestavia.

I use a Lowrance GPS/Sonar combo unit with a Navionics chip that shows bottom topography on the GPS map. It works well and allows me to find underlying structure very quickly for fishing purposes. Garmin and Humminbird offer similar units.

I just switched from Low. to a color Garmin GPS fish combo and love it. It tells you everything you'd ever need to know from lake to gulf waters. The color units are a little pricey but worth every penny.
