As most of you know, I was de-charterized last week and feeling pretty good about myself. So, after some excellent feedback from my forum buddies, I was able to make an intelligent decision on my next provider and chose Dish because they get local channels at my house. I set the installation appt. for yesterday between 12:00 and 5:00. Starting to sound familiar? About 3:15, paranoia sets in so, I decide to give them a call. Laurie tells me I am next on the list as soon as the installer finishes up in Tallahassee. I explain there is a good chance that the installer will not be here by 5:00 as Tallahassee is in Florida and a good 5 or 6 hour drive. Not picking up on my dry sense of humor, Laurie wonders aloud why a Florida installer would be doing my installation. I then explain that the installer is probably in Tallasse, Al. and not Tallahassee, Fl. Fast forward- 4:27, Jeremy says the installer is almost finished and on the way. I told Jeremy if he cannot het here by 5:00, don't bother coming and cancel my subscription. 5:06- No installer, I get Jeremy again and tell him to cancel. He says to talk to his manager and he will work something out. I remain on hold for 4 minutes and Jeremy says his mgr. is busy. I say I want to cancel He says he has to switch me to cancellations for that and it may take awhile because they are very busy. Wow, imagine that. He transferred me, I sat on hold for 2 minutes and hung up. As luck would have it, there was a flier in the mailbox promoting a new Direct TV package. Onward and upward, Direct TV it is.... local channels be dammed.

I know this isn't funny to you but ILMAO, can't wait to find out how many trips you have to make to get Direct.

We recently moved to an area off Hwy 34 that didn't have cable. Our only options were satellite. I went with DirecTV as they had better customer service ratings than the Dish. However, I did not sign up through the national 800 number. I called a privately owned company just outside of Dadeville called Cable Busters. I got the same exact deal as the national # was offering, but it was installed and set up by Cable Busters themselves. They were FANTASTIC!!!! Answered all my questions (and I had a bunch), on time, knowledgeable, helpful with suggestions, polite and LOCAL! And, unlike CAT - they didn't laugh too much at my directional challenges.

I highly recommend them to anyone 256-825-9939

Do you have a black cloud that just kind of follows you around? Maybe TV and internet service is just not in your destiny.

Not sure if they still do this, but when I went to Dish Network nine years ago, I placed an order online, Brown dropped off a box a couple of days later and after about a six pack I had it up and running. The self install kit even came with a compass for alignment - all I needed (other than the beer) was a level, drill, wire cutter/strippers, and screwdriver for a total install. Depending on where your current cable splitter is and where your dish will have to go, you could be up and running in about 2 - 3 beers.

Since installation is free, I don't think even a 12 pack could convince me to do it myself.

Maybe, just maybe, it is the word FREE that has caused all the problems with your various TV installations. You Republicans want everything FREE. Let a Progressive say FREE and they are called a Socialist.

Pay for a quality installation and enjoy the inaugral of President Obama. You sure don't wanna miss that!!!!!!!

pay for all this free stuff, I thought I would just grab what I could. And surely you realize that free, in this case, is not really free as there this obligation thingy saying I have pay them some ongoing monthly stuff.

My problem is that I find it hard to trust someone else to do something that I can do myself. The reliability factor of modern Americans has gone into the crapper. Then the logic kicks in - about $18.00 for a 12 vs. how much for a tank of gas? Another plus is that any project is a reason to buy more tools. :-)
