Does anyone know of a place around here where I can get the book about the lake? "Lake Martin: Alabamas Crown Jewel" By Elizabeth Schafer.

I googled it and found an Amazon.com site with the book for sale. But check out the price below:

1 new from $23.95 1 used from $598.78

Hmmm Now what would make the used book cost 25 times the new one?

I personally have not seen it anywhere recently, I got my copy from Amazon a couple of years ago, and always look around for them, there is also a new one out about Tallassee, but is really a photo collection. Good luck finding a copy, I enjoyed reading the book, its great!!

I have not read that one yet. I bought it once at Books a Million or whatever the book store is in Eastchase, Montgomery, to give as a gift.

If any of you are interested in 3 other books relating to Lake Martin history, see the below link. I am trying to accumulate a reference page on my blog. I hope to add to it as I read more.

So if you know of any other good books that we should read, please comment here or email. Or if you have your own reviews of books I have listed, do the same and I will put them on my library page. I love reading these types of history books so I appreciate any recommendations.

There is a "local" section at Barnes and Noble in Prattville. They have copies.

I looked for a copy a few weeks ago to use as a Christmas present and everyone (including Amazon and B&N.com) had sold out.

Books-a-Million in Hoover had one about a week before Christmas - I saw it there. Barnes and Noble, also in Hoover, has had them in the past and I would think they still do.

One of the best books that I have seen is "Putting Loafing Streams to Work," by Harvey H Jackson. Univ Of Alabama Press 1997. Prof Jackson teaches at Jacksonville State Univ. Usually one can find a copy at the local interest area at Barnes & Nobel or Books -A- Million.
He has several other books on the rivers of Alabama that are quite interesting.
