GF, nice sentiments and I will do my best. I find it interesting that liberals could have used this approach to life over the last 8 years as they have called Bush and Cheney every name in the book, compared them to Hitler, etc. Amazing how now that Bush is gone and the Messiah is on the way we are all supposed to show the love. I will do my best to behave but not to the point of giving Obamination and his Biden any more of a break than liberals give any Republican.....which is none.

Happy New Year!

GF...........enjoyed the story and the scenery and the sentiments in the clip, and think it is a good credo for individuals to strive for............however this would have meant more if you had addressed this to "neighbors or friends or fellow posters" rather than as Dems, Repubs and Inds. Let me explain why........as a supporter of a particular political party I don't think it's in a party's best interest to make nice with the majority party to the detriment of its own interests. I'm positive that while the Republicans were in the political wilderness for 40 years, the Dems were happy that they were being nice with the likes of Bob Michal (sp) as minority leader, but thank goodness the Repubs finally grew a set. I now think the minority should be as an aggressive loyal opposition party that common sense and good character dictates. In political matters, I go along with that genius observer of human behavior Wm. Shakespeare.........."There is a tide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune........Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in the shallows and miseries." Me thinks you may anxious for the Repubs to make nice for obvious reasons..........

Let me add this... "One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some people can be and how dangerous it is to trust them."

Geez, and I was just thinking that GF posted this in an effort to get us all on one page at least for one day in the new year.
In a couple of weeks Obama will be President and Bush will be a memory. The new Administration will have their chance to fix some things and screw up other things. Some people here will say "I told you so". But, as Americans, we better hope they get it right.

I spent a lot of my dash pursing the wrong things. I stressed over stuff that really didn't matter. About 15 years ago, a very senior boss of mine (I think he was 75 at the time) told me, every time you get stressed out over something, ask yourself "what will this matter in 5 years; in one year; six months from now". At the time, I wasn't ready to hear his words, but eventually I leaned. And I changed. And thankfully, I now recognize every day for the gift it is.

Bush won't be a memory as long as he can be blamed for something.

Any more than Clinton and Ronald Reagan. I don't think Bush is singled out any more than any other departing President. People were just as fed up with Bill Clinton as he was leaving office. History will decide whether he was right or wrong and how he will be remembered. Within 6 month, no one will be thinking about Bush except the historians.

.... the 26 MILLION Iraqi's he FREED from TYRANNY AND PERSECUTION!!

And then again there are some of us Americans that are proud of the fact that there has not been another attack on the homeland under his watch. I can assure as I watch the next batch of citizens die on TV I will remember the 7 years of safety and security he brought this great nation.

Hound, my point was that we have spent 8 years having to listen to the hatred of Bush/Cheney spewed forth by liberals and the mainstream media and now all of the sudden when you get your guy in the office we are all supposed to come together and love each other and have a big hug and cry. Liberals have been stressing and worrying and complaining and saying all kinds of awful things for the last 8 years about this country and now we are being lectured by those very same people to relax, stop worrying, Talk about chutzpah!

Well guess what, some of us think Obama is going to be bad for America, way worse than Clinton and second only to Jimmy Carter (hopefully). We think between Obama/Reid/Pelosi we are going to have a larger and more intrusive federal government. We think that if Obama follows through with his economic plans we will turn a difficult recession into a depression ala FDR because his belief that we get out of a recession through government spending on infrastructure, entitlements and trying to run private businesses is exactly wrong..

I am waiting and watching to see how Obama decides to govern or if he is just going to go along with the idiots running Congress. I am not optimistic but we'll see. In the meantime you talk about asking the question of what it will mean 5 years from now and that is exactly the questions we are asking about what short and long-term impact we will experience from a liberal controlling Congress and the White House.

I don't ever think that we can stop being vigilent about our national security or about where are elected officials are leading our country. Given the appointments he's made, I just don't see Obama getting into bed with Pelosi and Reid, but one can't tell. Politics makes strange bedfellows. I'm not worrying yet, but I am waiting to see what will happen. I doubt that Repubs and Dems are going to be embracing each other any time soon. Even the Republicans are split within their party. I'm optimistic about the future, because it is my nature to be so. But, I don't think that it's going to be easy. And if Obama turns out not to be a transformational figure, maybe he'll be a good transitional figure until someone else steps up. I'm convinced that there are good candidates out there, but for whatever reason, they are choosing not to run.

As far as those "liberated" Iraqis, they haven't declared Bush their national hero just yet. Maybe they will in time. I'm not optimist about countries that have democracy thrust upon them, instead of seeking it for themselves. But time will tell. I'm still hoping our military is allowed to go after the bad guys in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan. I think there will be additional attacks on the US. 9/11 taught Americans that we're vunerable. And it doesn't have to be anything as dramatic as flying planes into the WTC. We know that there are individuals in the world (and probably here in the US) who are looking for an opportunity.

I regret using the title of the post as it was merely intended to get your attention. It was certainly not intended to illicit the type of response relating to the election. Look it at it again assuming the posting was titled "Something to Watch".
