Unfortunately that is an all too common occurrence for those guys. It is easy to forget how good we have it on LM.

Yea, If you look at the Logan Martin Lake Level page and select graph data for all the years, something similar happened in the fall of 2004. I don't have much daily history prior to 2004 but I've heard of occasional flooding on Logan Martin. Logan Martin flood pool is 467 which is two feet above full pool of 465. Many lake's flood pool is the same as full pool. This affects building guidelines to different degrees.

One thing of interest is how they are handling the entire Coosa system. They lowered Lay Lake by a foot so Logan Martin can spill into it as fast as that dam can discharge... Lake Weiss is above full pool too, but by only a foot (yesterday)... Lake Allatoona has filled nicely but still has 5 feet of storage remaining. It was reported in a media article that they are holding water at Allatoona. Obviously waiting for Logan Martin and Weiss to subside.

Look at Neely Henry (between Logan Martin and Weiss), and see something interesting. They've dropped Neely Henry 5 feet which is very unusual. Then cut on the data graph history for all available years. You'll see the last time they dropped it that low was in the fall of 2004 (same time Logan Martin flooded). The capacity of Neely Henry is the lowest on the Coosa river, so I suspect they are allowing for as much spill capacity as they can into Neely Henry from Weiss (which also has a 2004 spike).

I believe that Logan Martin has an addtional 5 ft APCO easment above full puul. I know some APCO lakes do. Growing up in Cburg I saw Logan Martin out it's banks many times. Of course 1980 was the worst. That is the same year tha Martin overflowed and washed out the bridge below the dam. It seems like it was out of its banks a time or two in each of the 80's and 90's. I only lived a few mile from the dam and woul go and watch the water when the flood gates were open. What an awsome site. I have not ever made to Martin when the gates were open, but I hope to someday. With the curve and the long spillways, that has to be impressive. And Martin has about 3 times as many gates too.
