I guess you've posted a copy of Obama's resume.

At this point, Obama is the lesser of two evil's.

He has not even started. There are 155 people that can thank Bush they are still alive after the water landing in the Hudson.

As an airline pilot, I think that is about the most ridiculous statement I have ever read on this board. Those folks have a lot to be thankful for, but Bush had nothing to do with it. If anything, he deserves a piece of the blame for helping create many of the hazards in today's flying environment.

That is PETA big guy!
Even the liberal media says that Bush's homeland security policy being in place directly impacted the response time of rescue responders to the site of the perfect water landing by a well experienced pilot. The pilot is the hero!

It humors me when people try to break the down the world, the media, and every big event into conservative vs liberal, Bush vs Obama, and Democrats vs Republicans, etc, etc. and then try to plug in a situation to support their theory ......I'm not an Obama supporter, and as a conservative I'm disappointed with Bush on many issues; he has done more harm than good when it comes to aviation safety in this country and much of what people see in related security is laughable when you know the details. Blindly throwing government money around for security is not the answer and was not the answer.

In New York, the rescuers, pilots, passengers, and other crew members did an outstanding job and deserve the credit. If this would have happened 10 years ago, I have little doubt the outcome would have been the same. That river has been full of official and unofficial boats for decades, and it's hard to miss an airliner landing in the Hudson.

I guess you are humoring yourself based on your comments. I never mentioned Obama and will not turn my comment in to a political debate even thought I would hand you your rear if we did.

It all starts with the man with the stick in his hand. If he/she did not do a great job then the rest really would not matter. The entire crew did an outstanding job and that is crystal clear. OK

As far as my comment I agree with the liberal media and Fox News. Prior to 9/11 a reponse rate with helicopters in the air, 50 fire department rescue vehicles on site, boats other than the public ferries already in service, etc... dispatched in less than 3 minutes with the ability to coordinate and communicate their efforts simply would not have happened. You are nieve to think the response would have been the same 10 years ago. OK

Since Bush has received criticism for every small mistake he made in office and has received minimal praise for the security of the country and the changes he directed for homeland security I thought I would make that statement. OK

You are right it is hard to miss an airliner landing in the Hudson but that has nothing to do with the response time of rescue vehicles and personal to the site. Understood

The spectacular rescue was a byproduct of additional training, new communication procedures/equipment and coordination of efforts due to homeland security policy. I bet the families of the survivors do not thnk the money was thrown around blindly.

I didn't start the political overtones and I'll leave them alone because you seem to be missing my point ....... and my point is that this event ,as it happened, has NOTHING to do with politics. The pilots deserve virtually all the credit for saving lives; putting that aircraft down without breaking it was amazing and took great skill. If he would have caught a wingtip, or had one of the engines catch the water unevenly, things would be very different. After the plane came to a stop, everyone in the aircraft and surrounding area came together and helped out as we Americans always do in a disaster and it was anticlimactic from that point on.

I totally agree that proper training and good equipment for our fire fighters, coast guard, and police, are not a waste of money and those are not the issues I was refering to.

The major factor in the response time was becasue a Captain of the water rescue unit leaving the dock and actually saw the plane coming in. His being an eyewitness with the abillity call forth the 'troops' is the major factor in the response time. It idid not have to go thruoght the normal 911 system before acting on the emrgency. That fact probably saved several minutes.

Homeland Security grants have done a great deal towards upgrading many emergency services. In our lake area we've had big improvements in communications, fire equipment, personal protection gear. More co-op training ( alot of that has to do with our fire chiefs working closely together at monthly meetings, as well as our county EMA director ). Recently we had an area wide training on LP gas fires at the Dadeville HS with Area Propane providing the gas ).

Training is still pretty much a local issue. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention all fire departments need volunteers. Hint, hint. Please join if you can.
