I hardly ever see anyone posting to this forum. I know I'm not the only lake bum that fishes. Stripes were running shad in the shallows in Rabbit Branch last Saturday, but I couldn't get them to bite anything. I don't know of anyone catching much of anything right now... the flood plus the cold weather have things messed up. Be safe.

John,

I bought on the lake purposely to have someplace to fish. I haven't been since the flood. Going this weekend to do more work on the house - not flood related - just more 'do-it-yourself' type stuff.

But I agree - there's hardly any posting to this forum. I'll be posting more this year...maybe we can generate some traffic.

Hope to get a little fishing in this weekend, but you never know. I don't have a power boat yet (maybe this spring) but do fish from my kayak. I'm on the point just north of Country Club Estates on the Talladega side. I'm in a little cove and fish the docks there and the next slough east of me. Have caught some decent fish, but never any stripers. I'm from Florida originally and don't have much knowledge on how to fish a deep lake like this for stripers, so I'm in 'Learn Mode'. Maybe I can find some running in the slough...I usually carry a fly rod with me and would really like to see if I could get a striper on that!

Like you, I can't wait for Spring and some warmer weather! Maybe we can get together and do a little fishing this year?

My wife and I bought our place across the slough on the west side of Coosa Island two years ago for a weekend retreat. Due to the the winter draw down water levels I can't use our dock in the winter, so my fishing is done from spring to fall. I did get into the Stripes last Spring and plan to do so again this year. Most of my Bass fishing is done on the lower end of the lake. I can't wait till spring to get started fishing again.

Here's a nice bass I caught (hope link works) on a fly rod in the grassy shallows in front of the house back in June 2008. Alot like saltwater flats fishing! Great fun on a 5 wt rod.

The boys spend their time catching bream and small cats on crickets from the dock.

Hello All,

I am new to the forum, although not new to the lake.

I was fishing with my son-in-law and grandkids yesterday(2-7-09) and caught a 6.6lb bass on a nightcrawler while catfishing across from General Lee...I will try to load a picture later.(I was fishing from the bank).

I hope to see more post here as I am not as familiar with the lake as I am the river below Logan Martin Dam....and really am looking forward to some Crappie fishing this spring..

Hello guys. I'm glad to see there are actually some people out there that like to fish! Nice bass "other John"! Paw Paw & Rubber Duck - you'll get your chance for stripers and crappie soon. The stripes are active now, but I think they are confused from the flood. The crappie will start running as soon as the lake turns upside down (warmer on top than on bottom), and they will be plentiful. We caught over 100 one Saturday last spring. I am in the Rabbit Branch area, at the River's Edge Marina. I think this year will be a good year for fishing. I have a small bass boat & fishing near piers will produce some good crappie... I'm ready for spring!!! Be safe.

Rubberduck,

Are you located in Williamson's trailer park or close to it?

I gave the crappie a try this past weekend up above I20.

A friend goes up there and marked the spot on a map for me. He drift fishes a tightline minnow along the river channel.

Didnt have much luck, had a heck of a time with the wind and couldnt keep the boat in position without anchoring which doesnt allow for much drifting LOL.

Learned a new place though and it was good to be on the water

Tell Saint to keep his ice machine working more this year LOL!

Hope to meet you, we are the last on our drive.
