Over the years I've had trouble with dogs.Seems to me the part-timers get to the lake and turn the dogs loose without any consideration of others.

Maybe you should move away from those mean ole part-timers.
Your friend,
Mike with NO dogs aka part-timer

I know, if it's not deer eating your flowers, it's dogs pooping on the neighbors yard.. Might see what's available in Windemere..

I live at the lake full time and I have 2 dogs. I do my best to keep my dogs out of other people's yards, and have let my neighbors know that if my dogs ever cause them any aggrevation or annoyance that they should call me right away. Even when my hound dog barks I try to bring her in so she doesn't annoy my neighbors.
I try to be a responsible pet owner.

I'm with you Pal.. raise wild cats in the garage.. they keep the bird population down and bring dead fish to the deck.. can't be too picky with the price of hamburger..

I have an excess of sundried squirrels and chipmunks if you need any will trade for dead fish

I am a part-timer. I don't think I could be full time around some stuck up guy like you.

Some years ago Cindy's Dad would fish from their pier in the Peckerwood area before going to work. He'd put the Crappie in a 55 gal drum he sunk with holes etc under the pier. He started coming up short of fish, so he started watching. One cat would get on the edge of the barrel, and reach down into the barrel and pull out the fish, sometimes diving into the water. The other cats would soon join in the fish smorgasborg.

I live next to a fulltimer and his friggin dog lives at my house. I am a dog lover so, I haven't complained but, I wish he would dispose of his feces elsewhere.

can't we all just get along? It's THE LAKE!! We should all be thankful we get to enjoy it.....full-time, part-time, and visitors....even dogs! :)

I agree with "just get along", but it cuts both ways. My FT neighbor has two yipps that they either tie up while they are gone or let run wild around the neighborhood. Continuous barking night and day, and they never do anything about it. In my view, responsible pet ownership means that the OWNER should train the pet and be considerate of their neighbors.

I don't know how you train a dog not to bark. At least, I haven't been successful yet with my hound. But, leaving a dog that is a known barker tied up outside is a recipe for murder. Nothing worse than listening to someone else's dog barking for hours on end.

People can have electronic pet fences installed. I had one in VA and it worked fine. It won't keep other dogs out of the yard, but it will definitely keep your dog in. It wasn't cheap, but it definitely kept my GSP in his own yard.

I love animals and it doesn't bother me when my neighbors dogs come visiting as long as they play nice with my dogs. But, not everyone feels that way. No one should have to be aggrevated with someone else's pets. I would hope that a word with the owner would be sufficient and guns would not have be drawn and fired. The way some of the people here seem to feel, I wonder if we should bring back gun duals at dawn?

I understand that you are a responsible pet owner, and am sure that your neighbors appreciate it. So many are not as considerate as you or I, and that is where the problem begins. Whether a child or a pet – the “parents” should exercise control over their households to prevent trouble, but that seems to run counter to the “freedom and self-esteem for all” mantra. As far as duals at sunrise….. not a bad idea, let me get a different holster and some kevlar first though. :-) Remember - if you find yourself in a fair fight - your tactics suck...

It's not about teaching them not to bark - dogs are dogs. The problem is when the barking is continuous and a obvious irratation (to any sane person)and the owner does nothing about it. Kind of like when someone screams by your dock at mach 2, washes your boat on shore and is oblivious to the whole situation.

Our neighbors live at the lake full time and they turn their dogs loose all the time. This weekend we found out where our things that are missing from the porch are going to. The neighbors dog comes up the steps and helps himself. Was going after dh's water shoes.

Our neighbors dog has actually stood under our bedroom window at night and barked non stop until we go outside and shooo him away or throw something at him. We keep our dog at our place all the time, we don't let her wonder around.

This is exactly the type of behavior that I take exception to.

It was very irritating when our daughter was 3 and the dogs seemed to sense that it was nap time and start barking when we put her down for a nap. Never failed! Now that she's almost 5 (will be tomorrow) it doesn't bother her as much.

Many years ago a dog was not allowed to bother a neighbor. If it did consistently, it would be missing. No excuses.
Short of that, try using a freon air-horn aimed at the dogs while they are hanging around your property. If that fails, try using the same horn in the bedroom window of the dog owner about 3:00AM for a week, and deposit the scooped poop onto their car hood or door mat.
