Can anyone recommend a local shop (we're in Stillwaters) that can work on a 1994 Yamaha Waverunner VXR650? I've kept it running myself for quite a few years but it could definitely use a more trained mechanic.

I keep hearing that many of the marinas don't want to work on older machines.

Thanks.

We have used Montgomery Yamaha to do work on our 1998 XL1200. They're not exactly local but we were pleased with the work; we had to have a cylinder bored and oversized piston/rings installed. That was 3 years ago and we've had no problems.

that sounds like BIG BUCKS to me.I had to have the carbs on two Polaris units removed and cleaned and replaced diaphragms and fuel filters and it cost me $387 per unit.$112.00 in parts and 270.00 in labor.I cringe eveytime I take a waverunner to a shop.Shop owner says 3 hours labor each, I don't know, just have to accept it.Beware of gasahol or ethhanol stored over an extended period. Even though the tank was treated with Stabil I think this type of gas may have been the root of my problem.

I have 2 VXR's (93) that I have also been able to keep running all these years. If you will post particulars about what yours
is doing (or not doing) on the Boat Maintenance forum, either CAT, myself, or others may be able to offer ideas. I love those old 650's because there is so much room to work and not laden with expensive and complicated electronics.

The cylinder bore and piston replacement was around $1,000; all caused because an oil line came loose. Bad design!! Not cheap but they did an excellent job. Top speed actually increased by 3mph from what it was before the oil line incident!

Service techinician told me that management will not let them work on anything over 10 years old. Have checked lately. I have started using ClearWater Marine. Nice folks.
