they need to make less money. their stock has been tanking lately needs to keep going down so I can buy more. the dividend looks better the lower the stock price goes. and unlike Regions and Colonial banks SO will be around

But the lake is still rising. Look at previous years' elevations - especially 2007 - and count your blessings.

Given that March is our rainiest month, we are really a little too full. Remember, the number one function of Lake Martin is flood control.

I would have to say power generation is the number one reason. That is why the dam was built in the first place.

My guess is that APCO is trying to get Martin (and Harris) to the new variance rule curves. Harris is right on it and Martin should be close to 487 by the weekend.

It was built originally for power generation ... but that is no longer its main purpose. Southern Company gets less than 3% of its electric needs from hydro power. Now it is used to manage peak demands. The rest of the reason the lake is maintained is flood control, recreation and water reserve for homes.

The lake is above the rule curve. I think they are required by law to drop to the rule curve.
