to fail in his rush to spend lots of money using this 'crisis' as cover? The media and White House have made a big deal of the Rush L comments along these lines........so this is an interesting article based on the Federalist Papers writers opinion of just such times as these. Some of you may enjoy.

I thought this might be a really thought provoking article. Instead it's just another disgruntled Republican.

Of course, the Founding Fathers would be spinning in their graves. They'd think we were crazy spending money we don't have (although a few of the early Presidents died broke, so on second thought maybe they wouldn't).

Actually the Federalist Papers were quite instrumental in the early molding of thought and actions during the growing of our young republic..........sure wish the Dems would read 'em and be guided by them today. My observation of people has been that historical documents and concepts like these don't mean much if you only see your world in terms of the here and now.

The fact that the founding fathers said it is not what is important to you. It is the fact that it was repeated by a conservative. Reading the Federalist Papers is very instructive and there is no doubt in my mind that they contemplated exactly what is transpiring today. Bad laws and legislation enacted at a time of crisis in order to garner public approval that in the end we will regret supporting (not that I ever have or ever will). I cannot think of one piece of emergency legislation that turned out to be worth a bucket of spit.

You have often accused me of BDS. I think you have ODS.

I quite agree with you that historical documents can be instructive.

The primary difference with BDS and ODS is I focus on what he is actually doing and saying versus blaming him for everything that is wrong in the world, real and imagined.

But to be sure, I will be glad to place the Messiah on the ash heap of history when he leaves office although somehow I doubt he will have the same class as Bush. He will follow the Clinton model of trying to govern beyond the grave, a tactless and graceless paradigm started by none other than the failed and miserable Jimmy Carter. Notice that Bush has had the class to avoid commenting on BO's actions? Even Clinton has criticized BO already but not Bush. He has followed a more refined and decent tradition of avoiding criticizing the new president even when he called Bush a socialist in his miserable, whiney phone call the the NY Times.
