Just received an email with a link showing a rattlesnake swimming. A couple of years ago I killed a rattlesnake in the lake, posted the fact and had some who doubted the report. Take a look at the link below that shows a rattlesnake that acted just like the one we killed. Notice the snake inflates itself so that it floats on top the the water, unlike a moccasin or a common water snake. The snake can actually coil up and strike while in the water. This video was made in Texas, I believe.

ALL snakes can swim.

A trait of pit vipers (Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, Water Moccasins) is that they will almost always swim on top of the water. So your comment "Notice the snake inflates itself so that it floats on top the the water, unlike a moccasin" is not correct. And it's not inflation so much as the thick body type of pit vipers that leads to them swimming on the surface.

I don't have a fear of snakes. Just a healthy respect for them. Methinks I'd of moved my boat, unless the snake was heading towards a people area.

Good grief, they are hitting the poor thing?? ASPCA, where are you on this one? Dudes are obviously not catching fish, guess they have never not tasted BBQ rattlesnake.. What a waste..
