I have never been to Logan Martin - usually go to Smith Lake. Can you give me comparison of the two? Also, does anyone know of Marina Bay in Talledega County? Why are they closed? Have you ever been to the Marina?

Smith Lake - Clear Water - Logan Martin - Green Water

Smith Lake 20ft from shore 60-80ft deep
Logan Martin 20ft from shore 6-8 ft deep

Smith Lake 21,000+ Acres Logan Martin 18,000+

Marina Bay closed several years ago and a group of inverstors bought it with intentions of building condos on the sight. They tried to presell the condos but it did not go well and to this day I understand they have no plans to begin the project and a losing money monthly being in limbo.

Are you on the lake now? or just thinking about it?

We looked at all three lakes before we bought and found pros and cons to each lake. We are just down the road from Marina Bay and still think this was one of the best decisions we have ever made.

Are there specific things you want to know about the lake?

Thanks so much for the information. We are in the process of looking to purchase the marina-we usually stay on smith lake which is why I am curious in regards to the differences in the two lakes. How much does the water level fluctuate? Are there alot of people during the summer?

You are purchasing the "Marina Bay"? Or in the area?

It depends on your definitions of "alot of people". Some weekends are very crowded and some weekends are just perfect.

Water usually fluctuates 5 foot between summer and winter.

We bought here 3 summers ago after looking at all three lakes and feel we got the best deal on Logan and do not regret anything.

Let me know what else you want to know.

Great area!

Existing gas station would not need much to get up and running and I sure hope you have plans to get the resturant open again, not many places to eat on the water.

I guess I would be curious as to what your plans would be for the site. The area is great and easy access from the main channel.

Good luck with whatever you do and let me know if you need anything else.

Head toward the dam and it is back in the Clear Creek Area towards Camp Cosby...... Before you go under the bridge which is Renfroe Rd or Cty Rd 42, Marina Bay is on the right with and exissting gas station and a resturant on the water....

This is on the Talladega side of the river, schools are marginal. I am curious as to why that location is closing/for sale. It's nice back in there but just not that convenient to either get to via car or water. So much of the lakes traffic seems to come from the B'ham area and driving around to that location is a fair drive from anywhere near the B'ham area. I think this is likely why the marinas on the pell city side have tended to do better and seem to be sustainable.

Just my observations.

The only school I'll recommend is Victory Christian School in Pell City. Even though it's private, it is more than affordable. My daughter went grades 9 thru 12. It was a pita until she could drive, but worth all the hassle. It is a great school academically.
I don't ever try to discourage a venture such as yours, but hope you have done your homework. I have played on this lake for 30 years, lived on it for 6 and remember when the the original marina was built, and how many times someone has tried to make a go of it. Done right and with enough money, good management, etc., it MIGHT work. It's going to take deep pockets. Again not trying to discourage, but so far everyone that has tried making it work has gone under and ended up all but ruined. But, if done right it could be a GREAT place.
You asked about crime here. Very little that I have heard of. I live about 2 miles away by either car or boat. When the store was open, it was the closest one to me.
Off the bat, the names of the place have been:
Point Aqarious
Alpine Bay
Marina Bay
maybe more, can't remember yesterday sometimes, lol

Good Luck, I will support you how ever I can if you decide to go for it.

There aren't enough wet and dry slips on the lake or enough quality repair shops, or good places to eat on the water.

I would be a customer as well. And I live a fair distance away at least by boat. But the marinas I have been to on the lake now don't seem to be interested in anybody that isn't one of their full time, year round, slip rental, retail gas, pay the mortgage customers. Please try to sell me something and don't just act like I'm interupting your day. That is why I carry my own gas but I'd be happy to stop if I can find good service and fair prices.

My son played in the house band at the last incarnation of Marina Bay. I went a couple of times just to hear the band, had a beer or two and left. Seemed to have some regulars but I don't think much boat traffic as far as the weekend bar scene.

Good luck,

<><

It is my understanding that the property was bought by 3-4 men and they were asking potential clients to invest in Condos before they were built. Apparently that didn't "pan out" and the property has been tied up in litigations for a few years. My parents and I are looking to purchase the Marina and run it ourselves. My Dad is a water bug and always has been - he has great dreams and ideas for the Marina so I can only pray that things work out for us. I would be renovating and running the restaurant- any ideas on what kind of food or service we should offer at the restaurant?

Another vote for a new casual restaurnat on the lake. A place where you can get a good burger and a beer on a hot Saturday afternoon.

If your doors are open, you serve something fit to eat and keep the bathrooms clean itll be several steps above Pier 59 and you can count me as a customer.

I refuse to go to Pier Dump (59)

Ice Cream on a hot day will be a plus!

We live on the lake and will be your "pretty close" neighbors (by boat not foot). You can count on us as customers for coffee in the morning, burgers at lunch time and an adult beverage in the evening......you are planning on serving adult beverages aren't you?
