I'm assuming nobody has taken over the Bay Pine Marina? I know it was for sale a long time. This was by far the closest place for me to get gas and I loved their friendly service and their calm waters for docking. Anyone know if there are any plans to reopen? It's ashame they shut down.

Not sure about the marina that you are speaking about, however, I did hear that Lakeside is in foreclosure and closing. I heard this was in the Dadeville paper a couple of weeks ago. Haven't seen it but heard it from a reliable source.

Anyone else here this?

The old place where lakeside marina was located just below the River North bridge on the right has been taken down. I was wondering what was being built in it's place. It looks like it might be a dry storage place. Stacked storage possibly. ?

Bay Pine is shut down . You can still pay to use the ramps there if needed though.

FBG, You said "The old place where lakeside marina was located just below the River North bridge on the right has been taken down."

There are 2 Lakeside Marinas. I guess that both of them are closing since they are both owned by Donny Mac. The one near the 49 bridge is still semi-operational and has boats in the lot (no deconstruction yet). I guess that day is coming though!

I wasn't aware that the one near the River North Bridge has already started demolition. Interesting.

Do you know if someone has already purchased the land?

The one you are talking about was Lake Hill Marina. Lakeside Marina is across the street from Blue Creek Marina.

I hate to hear that anyone is GOOB. Sad, sad, sad. Thanks Obama your stimulus seems to really be working.

But on the other side, could this be a golden opportunity to get Lake Martin Branch of Cathouse Marine?

Bay Pine marina would be a great spot! It does have the support of the Wind Creek fishing tournaments as well. I would be one of your regular customers! Oysters, BBQ, Beer, you are making my mouth water!
As far at the marina being demolished, I saw a sign as I was leaving the lake. I did not know if the owners of the building were doing the demo and building the dry storage, or if it has been sold. It was on the market for mill and 1/2 and lake hill Marina had rented the building. They had about 25 wet slips already, but were effected with the dry summer last year.

As you well know, CAT, sometimes you have to just say " the h' with it, let's do it. One man's demise could very well be another man's golden opportunity. Lake Hill was doomed for years. Bay Pine was run by some very nice folks, but didn't sell beer nor cigarettes. I quit smoking 6 years ago, but I still like my brewskies. Everything is there except maybe shop space, don't know about that. Lake Hill has the shop and covered boat storage, could mean extra income during the winter months. You open up there and I will support you. Just too far to P'ville for me. One last thing, money might be a little tight, but interest rates are as low as they are going to get.

Actually there is some kind of agreement with all the property above the marina in a lease option from Alabama power. I would see about purchasing and putting in boat storage/RV parking. It would draw the Auburn football crowds. There are some very old enclosed boat storage buildings which remains full. There are wet slips on the opposite side of the marina that are part of the income and they usually remain full. I would suggest that RV spots be rented by the year with the wet slip. There is a new two story building/office that could be turned into a store downstairs and a rental upstairs. They sold fireworks there one year Locals have been supportive of the business.

.... the problem with Bay Pines is sewage!! They have no way to deal with it. The current system I think is condemmed, if not it should be. It used to smell of sewage and the one bathroom stayed backed up with sewage all the time. As for seasonal RV parking, what do you suggest they with their sewage? There is no facillity for them to hook to or pump out into.

I love Bay Pine and wish they would reopen, but it won't happen without very heavy investment in an engineered seawage system. But until APCO agrees to sell the adjoining property so that sewage could be pumped to a septic tank up there, I don't think a solution exists. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. If there was an easy solution, it would have sold years ago.

There are a number of challenges with Bay Pine Marina -- chief among them is the septic system. In order to serve prepared food, the septic field must be a certain distance from the water and this is only possible at that location by pumping it up the hill to another piece of property. Apparently the grandfather clause that allowed the barbeque place was lost in some of the ownership transitions. This coupled with the current owner's desire to not allow beer sales makes the economics pretty tough. The land that used to have trailer/RV parking is actually Alabama Power land as I understand it. We live in that slew and miss the folks who ran the place -- they are great people. We have heard there may be an attempt to re-open, but as of last week there was no sign of activity.

Are you saying they wont sell to anyone that is going to sell beer? How strange. I know they wouldn't, but to refuse to sell to anyone that will is cutting off the nose to spite the face. IMHO the seage issue is insurmountable without the purchase of additional property.

Watched many boats go in and out of there looking to buy gas etc... Needs to be opened or removed off the map. It irritates people when they head that way for gas only to find it closed and are running low on fuel to make it to the next store. Watched it all weekend in between the rain showers.
