Hound believes in many conservative principles and is having second thoughts about her vote for hope and change??? Would give you 3 to 5 odds in Tunica.. Just a bit of intuition..

No, I'm not having second thoughts about my vote. I'm not exactly happy about that way things are going because at heart I'm a conservative. I still think we needed a complete break from the past 8 years. I would be much happier if there was balance in Congress because I think debate about issues is important.
If the GOP gets it act together and finds some leadership in the next 4 years, I'll probably vote Republican again. I'm pretty much in the Colin Powell frame of mind.

Would you have voted for any of the serious Republican contenders other than McCain? (Romney, Huckabee, etc)

Did you then and do you now consider Sarah Palin a legitimate leader fit to be the first female POTUS?

No agenda with my questions, just curious, and won't argue with your answers.

I would have been fine with Romney. Huckabee would have been okay too.
No, I don't consider Sarah Palin to be a serious contender for President. I have to say that it just further disgusted me when McCain made her his running mate.

I'm always a little nervous when you ask a "curious" question --

I don't set traps. If I say I am curious, it is just that. Now if you create one for yourself, that is a little different :>).

I have to agree that Palin does not exhibit Presidential qualities or presence - and I fear that she thinks she does and will muddy the water in 2012.

Have a great lake day. Wish we were there. We are in the final throes of recovery from the leaky water heater......carpet layers here....wood floors replaced last week...drywall/crown moulding/paint crew did a so-so job and left evidence of their presence everywhere. No telling how cr@ppy it might have been if my son hadn't been on the crew telling them they had to do better...what a Hungarian Jug ****.

Is a Hungarian Jug the same as a Mongolian Cluster?

at least not yet. It's overcast.

Sorry about your mess. Is this in Monkeytown or at lake? There are still a few things that I'm cursing about this house. We're about to start building on our covered parking in the next couple of weeks, and I'm so looking forward to having builders here again from 7:30 - 1600, right outside the windows, with pounding hammers.

"Fungummery" as my kids used to say. The only bright side is that we had planned to replace the den carpeting anyway and now have nice hardwood for about what it would have cost to re-carpet.

It is really hard these days to find craftsmen who take pride in what they do. Its like the fixed-price contracts the Government lets....the contractor will do the absolute least he can get away with and still meet the spec.....

Good luck Hound - you HOPE they are there from 730-1600 swinging hammers and running saws, too many people these days are not professional or considerate enough to be on time for anything. And when they do work - Mr H is correct - no pride in the project - it is after all, simply a job.

but I've actually found a wonderful builder. And he really does work those full days. I've been impressed with his workmanship. No, not the guy that built our house, sorry to say; but the guy that built our boathouse and redid our dock. Met him through the architect that designed the boathouse. I understand that after he builds our parking thingie, that he'll be starting on my neighbor's new house.
I don't think he does handyman type stuff though.

Agree it's hard to find a good handyman. I had one in VA and I felt like I was dreaming. He worked at my house for 3 weeks every day, and in the course of selling my house there, actually kept a key and checked on things while it was on the market.

Congratulations, sounds like you found a winner - he will stay in the business as long as he chooses to build. The Boss wants a detached garage/carport at the lake which means we will have to have some of the work farmed out. When we built in Monkey Town we would go to the house every day after work and leave notes to advise where the mistakes du jour were.

Since we live here full time, we decided we needed some covered parking. I wish we could have built a full blown garage, but not enough room. The new structure will have only one enclosed space for our vintage Rolls that we now rent a storage unit to store. Maybe if it is closer, we'll drive it more often.

If you need an architect, I highly recommend Tom Adams from B'ham. His parents and much of his family lives on the lake.

Some years ago, an astronaut was sitting in the capsule at the launch pad waiting for liftoff on the way to the moon. A TV reporter asked how he felt at the moment. The reply was I am sitting in this capsule attached to a massive rocket and each part was made by the lowest bidder. Think about that next time when you bid out a building or remodeling job!!!!!!!

I can understand the space issue, but we are fortunate????? to have no covenants in place in our area. We are also fortunate to have about fifteen dogs, a couple of cats and a pig that roam the neighborhood. Plans change rapidly - we tore down a flat roofed carport intending to extend the gable roof, then it was decreed that we would build a storage building at the end, and cover a deck on the house since we will be reroofing anyway. Now we are scraping the storage room and replacing that with a garage. Next week - well my crystal ball is broken, but since we will be down most of next week.... :-)

LOL!!

You don't live on Beaver Pond Road, do you? My BIL has a farmer nearby -- pigs roaming, goats roaming, even 5 horses one day were roaming around. Plus he seems to have an abundance of stray dogs..

Nope, Point Cloxson. It is a neighborhood with small lots, the pig (name is Bama) and about 8 of the dogs are from across the street, another 4 dogs belong to his neighbor (he did not keep the horse too long)...
