This may sound like a trivial subject, so feel free to either pass on an answer, take a pot shot at me or give me good advice. Since we visit the lake on weekends only to this point, we have been hauling our household garbage back home and dumping in our home garbage can. It seems cost prohibitive to sign up for a garbage pick up for at most 8 days of garbage a month at the lake.

Now the question - are there any public garbage dumpster drop offs in the Jacksons Gap area or on the way back through Dadeville? I'm speaking of legal dumps set up for public drop off.

Ok, now I'll hold my breath, push "post message" and see what kind of response I get.

Just wondering...
If you have to haul the garbage to one place (home) for disposal, why seek another place to haul it? Is it a space problem to sdd the garbage from the lake to the garbage at home? Since it has to be hauled somewhere for disposal, why not just take it home with you?

It's a convenience thing. If I'm going past a dumpster that's legal to drop off and avoid hauling it 2 hours, I'd like to do it for convenience. Often we make stops along the way home and hauling garbage in back of a truck just isn't convenient. Also, as the garbage accumulates during our stay, storage is an issue. However, if I'm going to town and can drop off legally, it helps. If there's no place, fine - just looking for an easier method if there is one.

back when I had garbage service at LM, some of my unknown neighbors/passersby dumpted their trash in my can at the street, if it was still out. Solved that problem for them, right?

When we were part timers, thats what we would do. My neighbors had 2 cans at that time and didn't mind sharing. But I would also toss a couple bags in the back of the truck and haul them home when I could.

Maybe offer to share the cost of a can with another part time neighbor?

Good luck, Peace,

Since no one will answer your quetion, I do not believe that there is a rolloff station anywhere on the Dadeville side of the lake. I have asked about this before when we were doing some renovations. I know this varies from county to county though

We paid for garbage pickup, after our daughter threw up from the smell. Yes our neighbors and others fill our can before we can get to it. Our neighbors also throw their trash on the side of the road and the garbage co. will not pick up anything not in the can. This is a beautiful place people should have more respect/pride.

There are no legal dropoffs (dumpsters) in Tallapoosa County. For $51.30, you can get three months service from Advanced Disposal. Is the smell and aggravation greater than $17.10 a month?

We're full timers so we pay for 2 cans. I notice that all of my neighbors who are part timers each have a can. We've been very fortunate that our closest neighbor told us to feel free to use their can if we have overflow. Hardly ever do, but it has come in handy once or twice.

I think it is a great idea to try to partner with one of your neighbors. Don't know about the Dadeville side of the lake, but we pay $54 for 3 months of pickup.

Yes, Puntune, you are absolutely right...people should have more respect. On three occasions, I have found bags of garbage dumped (usually after a big holiday) on my property...and on each occasion, I put on surgical gloves and went through the crap until I found a way to contact the scumbags who did it. Each time, I called them (2 in Bham, 1 in Montgmry) and gave them a choice of coming back for it or charges would be filed...also explained about the $500 fine for dumping...they retrieved it...maybe a little extreme on my part but nothing gets me fired up more than people with so little respect and character.

4lake - I am a part-timer in the Bay Pine area. We pay for a can but I know of a guy who has a dumpster and you buy a "membership". Some of my part-time neighbors do this instead of paying for pick-up.

When you leave LM, drive to Cathouse... We have dumpster here. A little out of the way, but you will have good time. Every once in while, bring your boat and get service. Look foreward to seeing you soon. Also, I am suppose to give you driving lessons, please call soon and make appointment, I am getting bored. (yu know I had to poke at you).

Consider adding a garbage disposal. All the foodstuffs go down the disposal. Rinse out any cans or plastic that held meat and you should have non-stinky bags to take home.

In our case, nobody on our dirt road has garbage service. They told us we would have to haul it up to the paved road. Huge hassle.

You will have to pass a test before being appointed

Question: Are you behind on your taxes?

If yes you get the job

Please play again. Also remember that campaign donations can be accepted by phone - Visa, Mastercard, and food stamps are accepted.

We just bag our trash and then take it out on the boat at night and tear open the bags and dump it all into the lake. The cans sink to the bottom and form little coral reefs and the rest of the garbage is for the fish. This makes me feel "green".

Just kidding, just kidding.

We haul ours home as well in the truck but I do know that each county has a dumping station but you must be a resident of the county I think? Not sure if "weekenders" or "out of towners" are exempt.

If you find one near dadeville, let us know, on the big holiday weekends it would be nice to be able to 'offload' some of the bags.

There is a recycle station west on Walnut Hill on 50 (southend of lake. Great way to get rid of cans, bottles and plastic.

No additional advice on this subject. However, if you've only been to LM on weekends, I strongly suggest you stay for a week...soon. It's a different place Mon.-Thurs, water is smooth as glass and clear as a swimming pool. You can run your boat full throttle and never cross a wake. The only problem is you may never want to return to the ATL.

There are dumpsters where 72 and, I think, 73 split at the end of Girls Ranch Road. Before I got trash service, I thought it would be OK to dump it there so, I did. Well, Barney Fyfe was hiding in the woods, saw my Georgia tag and proceeded to lecture me how these dumsters were for Lee County residents who didn't have curbside service available. My wife was laughing her arse off. I claimed ignorance and he let me live to see another day. I still dump stuff there occasionally, just out of spite but, I always check the woods on the left first.

Consider yourself lucky. There is a pretty steep fine for dumping in those.

They are accepted, but have to be in pre-emptied condition. I would bet that most of your supply would not meet that criteria. If they do however, I would be glad to help you convert them to recyclables.

There is one at the fork in the road of CR 72/71 and another just south of the Bottle on 280. Suppose to be just for Lee county residents. Play dumb if you get caught. You could pass either one or both otw to ATL.

Using a garbage disposal can more than double the waste being dumped into a septic system and it will need pumped much sooner....this cost should be considered. If you have an old or small tank, it may be a bad idea.

If you dump at the Lee County site, you better have a Lee County tag. Had a Columbus friend get nailed at the site. They do watch it.

I don't think a weekend cabin is in any danger of being pumped.
