Well I became a BGE owner this weekend. Second cooking was 2 filets from Catherines. Two and a half minutes both sides, two and a half minutes while temperature dropped. Five minutes of resting time and they were a perfect medium rare. Oh yea, it takes five and and half mintues for the charcoal to be ready. I may not be a true believer yet, but it will not take long if the grill performs this way every time we cook.
I would not recommend putting this under a vinyl ceiling for 2 reasons. 1. When you smoke it will probably stain the vinyl pretty quick. 2. When you go "hot" for steaks it can reach upward of 900 degrees. This will melt the ceiling quickly for sure.
Wouldn't recommend it being under any covered porch.
I don't have one, but am considering the purchase....did "going nuclear" get covered under warranty? It seems it would if they advertise 1800 degrees of capability.
I have seen several threads about Egg and/or ceramic cookers. FYI was in Moore's Hardware in Dadeville this week end and they are selling Ceramic Cookers.(Not Green egg) My experience with Moore's has been very good as respects their service. Last summer tried to buy a new refrigerator from HD in Alex City. They never showed up on delivery date after I had driven to lake just for that purpose. Ordered same from Moore who not only delivered (after ordering refrigerator) on Sat but overall had a better price. I have no connection to them they just have great service.
I always had the clay ones but now they are ceramic and less likely to crack. What happens is you light the charcoal get a beer, check the charcoal, get a beer, check the charcoal get a beer and CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT! Seriously they will just seem to take forever to light and then suddenly Poof! Nuclear. So you have to leave off the beer until it starts up. :-(
