Now I'm not trying to start anything here, just have an honest question. It was my understanding that there was to be no advertising of businesses or services on the board. Is this true or am i mistaken? If I'm right, it's not fair to all the people who spend money to have their business advertised on this site. Also, i have a service that i would like to talk about. Just saying.....

Bass, it seems to me, that if you are tooting your own horn then then expect the forum to get in an uproar. However, if you are simply commenting on the service you received around the lake, that pretty much slides.

Since there is paid advertising on this site, then you shouldn't come on here and talk about your business, simply just pay for the service.

But if you recently went to a new restaraunt around the lake and thought it was the best food and service you have ever received then please share with the rest of us, we would like to go as well.

So the question to ask is, the statement you are making, is it for your benefit or the benefit of others.

There are a few, and we all know who they are, who post on here pimping their business and, to me, this is wrong. However, I have asked for referrals on various services several times and got some great feedback on this forum. In my opinion, if it's your business you are promoting, pay for advertising.

That was all i was asking. I love reading all the feed back about local restaurants and such. I was under the impression that it was a no no to advertise you personal business on the board. If it's not, that's fine....just a question.

Take for instance that I have a pest control company (example only) and i posted on the board "does anyone need a good pest control guy, I offer very cheap prices". Is an acceptable post? or not?

Lake Care's post about lawn care was flagged as inapproriate for reasons that answers your question. It was not flagged by me, but I do agree with it. Read the forum rules or contact web master. If you want to advertise your business, fine, pay for it. If you want to let a forum member know about a service they are inquiring about, go for it. If it is your business, do it in a way that answers their question, not advertise your business. Email is a great way to do that. My .02 worth.

I see no problem with someone that is already a paid advertiser on the site that drops a post stating a special or what else is going on with there business. Some of the threads and posts are way more annoying b/c of there ignorance and stupidity.

It is pretty cheap to advertise on the site from what I understand. It would pay for itself since it is catered to the demographic area you are trying to reach.

My $.02. If someone is starting a new business in our area and paying for advertising, I find that appropriate to introduce themselves to the members and answer those questions that arise. In todays world, they really should have a web site where most of those questions are already answered.

My 2 cents..I am a paying advertiser on this site and the benefits are enormous. When someone is in need of my service, I simply post to it. If you are paying, I see nothing wrong with this. It is not expensive and again, well worth the dollars. As for keeping business on the lake, I can only say one thing. Its who ya know. You will meet some great folks who do their business here. All the folks I do business with now, have become great friends, and stop by every weekend to say hello and join our many cookouts on the boathouse. Get to know your local lake animals by doing business. You never know when you will make a new local friend.

This is a great site and group to advertise too. It has offered us much support. If you do decide to advertise here, I think it is best to offer broad support and information to members. We have met many nice people here. Advertising packages are inexpensive, and can link you to several lake sites.

How can you type and go 100+ MPH at the same time? Now get back to the 'poker run' and get off the internet.

Just kidding of course. Hope you and the family are having a great time.

I'm sure all the advertisers appreciate your post about increasing the rates. Some comments are just not funny.

.....all I can say is it must suck to be you. I hold no power to raise anybody's rates. Everything sales for what it is worth. I have no idea how internet advertising is priced. Whats more is I don't care at this point in my life. You sure don't give Bruce much credit if you think it would take me making a flippant comment to clue him in that his customers are happy. Especially after that thread.
