I've just spent an hour or so catching up on the last couple of days posts to this forum. It's even deeper than usual. Some of the very enlightened members of this forum have anointed me as a "pea-brained, baby killing, America hating, idiotic, Libtard(?),cowardly,s**thead". Well I may be all of that, but based on some of the comments in recent posts it has become apparent that some of you are getting a little testy not to mention demonstrating you aren't the brightest porch lights on the block. In fact I think some of you prove the experts are wrong. The Neanderthals are not extinct. At least a dozen are alive and well and hanging out around Lake Martin in Alabama.

A lot of people here are very, very conservative. Too bad you weren't hear during the campaign and election. It's actually a kinder, gentler place at the moment.

Perhaps you and Feb can share SpellChecker??

That's the second time I've done that today. Of course, spell checker won't catch those.

Ahhh Shucks, Girl. Just chuckling at some of this nonsense. But, as usual, you found a way out??

You remind me of the Carly Simon song....You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you, don't you?

Typical self-absorbed liberal baby boomer. Next you'll be whining for your social security, free health care, the government to pay for your mortgage, etc.

Actually oh enlightened one, I was born in 1943, already enjoy the fruits of medicare which, which being gainfully employed, I continue to pay into, and I own my house (2 if you count the beach house) free and clear.

PS: I've had much better service from medicare over the last 9 months than I did my private insurance. I'll be applying for SS retirement benefits in a couple of months. When the time comes, I'm sure you will refuse to accept it and let it remain in the "trust fund".

What rock have you been living under? Tell me you don't actually believe there is a social security trust fund. There is not one penny of your hard earned money paid to the government under FICA sitting in some fund. They spend every friggin penny of it every year and then some, and that is a bipartisan hose job of the first order. SS is paid out of the general fund and from debt. It is a classic ponzi scheme and if I ran a fund like the government is running SS you could call me Bernie Madoff, a Democrat by the way. I know you actually believed Algore and his lockbox, but like his claims of global warming it just isn't true. Yet another example of a liberal believing so much that isn't so.

Archie, I am glad you are going to get yours because your children and grandchildren are going to get screwed by the incredible debt that the Messiah is going to saddle them with.....but just as long as you are comfortable........

I would be flattered to be called a "Neanderthal" if the alternative was to be a Liberal like Archie. In addition Archie, I haven't reviewed all the posts in the last couple of days so I'm not sure if you were called all the above-mentioned names. If so, I can assure you it wasn't me and the day I resort to name-calling is the day I quit this board. This forum is entertainment to me, nothing more, nothing less.

If we had socialized medicine 3 years ago, I'm quite certain I'd be dead.

You are correct, but you have to look at the bright side - when we get our socialized medical care, our expenses for non-medical related care for the elderly will take a sharp drop. We will HAVE to decide who is worth treating and who would simply cost too much to keep alive. Count on it.

Good grief MM, as superior a mind as you have it is amazing that you can't pick up on a facetious comment (you also missed my my Chelsea=dog vs MM=sick puppy) a few weeks ago. There has never been a big pile of money (trust fund) for Social Security. It has always been spent for general puroposes because the income exceed the outgo. Of course, according to what I have been told, it wasn't until your and my hero Ronald Reagan was in the WH that we started using the surplus in the SS system as a credit when calculating the budget deficit. Soon, the income vs outgo lines will intersect. What do you suggest we do then, just complain about and blame me and the rest of the "hate America crowd". Come Republicans put up or shut up. Remember the only real solutions are those that are politically possible. So what say you with the big brain?

It wasn't Regan who started raiding S. S. It was none other than good old L B J to pay for his "guns & butter."
More revisionest history, I presume?

... you seem to belive something that just isn't true. Nice try though once again. If you keep it up statistics tells us you HAVE to get one right sometime. But thanks for playing!!

END THE SOCIALIST PROGRAM. Let me out now (and I don't have that many years left) and they can keep everything i put in. That would be part of the answer ... allow people to opt out, stop withholding but they owe nothing to them.

The other option is to make SS like any private investment fund and get the government out of running a ponzie scheme.

Read my post Old Diver. I didn't say Reagan was the first to raid the SS funds. It was according to my accountant, who may very well be wrong, under Reagan's watch that the SS surplus was first used as an accounting trick to offset the general budget deficit to make it appear smaller than it actually was. As I say this comes to me from another source and may not be correct.

You might be surprised to learn that I basically agree with you if it was phased in a gradual way. I'm talking a greater and greater portion of FICA with-holding into private accounts on a year by year basis probably over 20 or more years. Remember, if your solution is not politically possible to institute it is not a real solution.
