I'm taking my wife out for our anniversary Fri. night. We live on Lay lake, we don't have any dining here. I planned on taking her to Christopher at Blue Creek. Any opinions on this place? Do you need a reservation? It looks like a good spot on their website. Any help is appreciated.

go to page 3 of this thread--see my 'dining critique; by all means, take her to Christophers--reservations not required

good food but a long drive. probably closer to go to Highlands Bar and Grill (FRANK STITT) in B'ham. It has the best food in the Southeast.

Or depending on what part of Lay you live on, the Buttermilk Hill restaurant in Sylacauga, has great food.

I live in Fayetteville so I'm pretty close to Sylacauga. I want to get out of Sylacauga for the evening. I would like to go to Highland and try some of the different fare they offer (quail or venison) but my wife is very picky. She likes steak and potatoes when we go out. I'd really love to try Bottega on Highland but I couldn't find anything on the menu that she'd eat. The drive doesn't bother me nor her as we both drive to B'ham to work.

Any suggestions on things to do afterwards? I want to stay at the lodge next to the restaurant but my wife will work Sat. night (she's a nurse) and will want to sleep all day Sat. so that killed that idea.

Highly recommend the " roast duck in butterscotch sauce ", be very careful with the " Mahi Mahi ". Service was excellent and atmosphere is very nice. Also went there for aniversary dinner 2 weeks ago.
