Tired of cleaning the mess off the boats each weekend. Has anyone used a bobble head owl to scare off the birds in the boat house? If so does it work, or is there something else that you have heard that works?

Try a bobble head Cat Boat (it's an owls body with Cat boats head on it). Cat's and Birds don't get along.
If this doesn't work, then I 2nd pontoonfishers idea. Just don't shoot toward your house!

I am having a similar problem. Then there are also the dirt dauber wasp adding to the mess.
I wonder if the recording of a shrieking hawk would work. I know this has been used by some large stores with massive parking lots to keep away seagulls.
The only problem is who wants to hear the noise in the solitude of this beautiful Lake.
Maybe rubber snakes hanging from the rafters. ???

The snake idea is two fold. It might keep out the birds and (referring to last weeks' post) it should assist in keeping those pesky relatives from borrowing the boat too much. Just don't tell them they are fake and that you've heard from a reliable source that this particular snake often lays its eggs in the gunnels of boats and then lurks in the rafters watching for prey. They are extremely poisonous and can cause respiratory discomfort just by breathing the air if they are present.
If that doesn't work, the .22 or 12 guage should work nicely for removing both birds and family.

A hawk won't do it. We have a very large red tailed hawk in our slough. We still have birds nest under the boat, porch, peir etc. I even have one that nested in the roll up blind I have on the porch. I used to drop it in late evening when the setting sun streamed into the living room. Now I have to wait on her to raise her babies before I can lower the blinds again. We even had a mama duck and 14 babies in the slough. Only 9 babies made it to full size. I figure the hawk ate good this year. Tender baby duck, yum yum!!
You are right about the noise too. He is a loud sucker and hardly ever shuts up during the day.

in our hanging ferns. After 1 day, they were perching on the snake in order to better reach the nest they were building in the fern.
And, they had smirks on their faces the whole time!!

What slough are you in? We have a mamma and 9 begging us for food at the pier. Jump in the yard 2 houses down and eat grass seed.

Make a life sized scarecrow out of wire or bamboo, etc. Dress it in clothing and tie it so it wiil hang and move in the breeze.

I'll pass on the snake idea to my brother. Not to scare off any birds, but to keep another brother from riding all of the gas out of his Wave Runner and then not putting it back on the lift right.
