Lamont, you did not appreciate my posting about Sen Ensign and his affair. What do you and your fellow Conservatives think about today's release. Sounds like the morally exclusive Republicans can cheat on their spouse and their "brothers" accept it. I know you guys says that is typical Left thinking but your party has its share of scumbags. I guess they forgive for they too may be caught someday.

"Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) apologized to his colleagues today in a closed-door meeting of Senate Republicans, drawing a warm embrace from a GOP conference that just a week ago considered him a rising star before he revealed an affair with a woman...."

My question to you GF, would be this: Would you rather be associated with an organization that at least espoused SOME moral principles to attempt to live by, knowing that there will be those within said group who fall short of the standard and will face criticism OR be associated with a group who would rather avoid hypocritical accusations altogether by espousing no moral principles at all? To me, the latter smacks of cowardice.....

GF, you didn't address this to me, however, I have the occasional thought or two, and it is an open forum. Ensign's actions are despicable. Poking an aide, finding her husband high paying jobs, all while professing the moral high ground just pisses me off. It is indicative of the dearth of moral leadership, and lack of integrity, in our nation’s capitol. The only reason apologies are accepted is that colleagues hope they will one day get off as easily. It seems that we cannot go 7 days without hearing about members of Congress, or the Administration, getting caught cheating on their wives, or cheating on their taxes, or funneling taxpayer stimulus dollars to their husbands company while flying in a taxpayer funded jet, or forgetting that rental income is taxed even if earned in a foreign country, or leaving their kickback money in the freezer at home, or playing footsies in the men’s room stall, or sending perverted e-mails to young pages, or making fraudulent citizenship claims either to defraud taxpayers into underwriting an education or defraud voters into sending you to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Note, I left out the filth surrounding Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. Democrat, Republican, makes no difference. The current crop is not deserving of our confidence or trust.

Is that these are people who have chosen to serve in public service. They know that at some point their actions are going to be scrutinized, yet they still do these things. I'm not sure if it is human failings or if their positions just engender that kind of arrogance that they think it doesn't matter.

I still think the revelation of his affair has been timed to get it out there and over with before he seriously starts running for President. That way, it's out there and old news before the next round of campaigns start.

But, I'm a cynic when it comes to politics.

on this issue. It is not acceptable. I recall reading a thread here a few days ago where it seemed some thought this was ok. It's between the man and wife; a private matter. What's the big deal...50% of the rest of the population does it. Even Clinton's perversion was ok; only his perjury was an issue. Nonsense! These people are elected to the highest public offices for the leadership of our country. This type of behavior is not a private matter and it is not acceptable. It speaks of their character. If someone will make the decision to cheat on their wife and family...throw that all away...then how can the public depend on that person to make the right decisions for the public good. He should resign, and all the others like him too. If that means half must go, then good.

You are being too snarky by half trying to hold Rs to a higher standard than you will hold Ds to.........but make no mistake, Ensign will pay a price for this (as he should) as Bill Clinton did, and, as Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and Jefferson should. Funny, this reminds me of a statement my late F-I-L made on one of our many talks.....(cleaned up for family reading)'If you bait that hook with a woman's love, you'll catch any man everytime...'! Now throw that stone if you don't live in a glass house......

who said that I think affairs are between a husband, wife and God. I did not support what Bill Clinton did. He disrespected the office.

I think the main difference between you and me GF, is that I will absolutey not vote for anyone who has been indiscriminate in their sexual behavior while married. Sorry, at the risk of sounding self-rightous, to me, cheating on your spouse is second only to murder in the hierarchy of sin. If you can't keep it in your pants then "sac up" and divorce your wife and go your merry, perverted way. I can give examples of Republicans I highly respected who "stepped out" and lost my vote. Overall, it seems Republican scumbags who participate in this behavior, for the most part, are scorned and not re-elected. On the other hand, murderers like Ted Kennedy and perverts like Barney Frank are re-elected by landslide margins. I can't even believe you posted this topic.

"I think the main difference between you and me GF, is that I will absolutey not vote for anyone who has been indiscriminate in their sexual behavior while married."

Nothing I have said suggests that I accept the behavior of Democrats or Republicans who are scumbags. Rudy as been relected, Newt is popular with the Right, McCain was your candidate........ I have no respect for Clinton... Barney and Kennedy are reelected but not with my vote. I suspect we are much closer on morality in government that you project. The only reason Ensign came forward is he was being blackmailed by the woman’s husband.

Explain your vote for McCain???????

From Ron Paul.....”John McCain's 1st wife stood by his side and waited for him while he was a POW. Then when he was released and sent to a Navy Hospital in Hawaii, his 1st wife was involved in a car accident and paralized. What did John McCain do? He went and had an affair with a Navy Nurse in Hawaii and divored his paralized wife. He then married the Navy Nurse”.

I think you missed my point. For every slimeball Republican you mention, there is an equally slimeball democrat. Neither party corners the market on sleaze. My point is, once I realize the candidate is a slimeball, I don't vote for him. Now, would you like to explain your vote for Clinton. Oh yeah, I'm sure you didn't vote for him. And just how do Kennedy and Frank get reelected. Finally, at last glance, I don't think Newt holds public office at present. It appears he is making his $$$$ the old fashioned way... he's earning it. I know, you probably object to that as well because he appears on Fox. Oh well, that's where the money is.

I normally don't even bother with this portion of the forum, but I would like to know what price Clinton paid for his actions.

I have no respect for Clinton. He lied remember!!!!!

I often wonder why the Right was so silent when he teamed up with Senior Bush to raise money for hurrican victims. It was a noble act by a scumbag.

Yeah, I know. Among other things. GF said he paid a price for his actions, I don't recall any punishment he received. His wife kept him around ( for what that's worth ), he was not impeached, he was not fined, spent no time in jail. Does GF think that he was embarrassed by all the commotion. Not hardly.

As I said above, unlike Democrats where an extramarital affair, indictment for corruption, etc. is merely a resume enhancer. For Republicans they end up resigning in shame.

That pretty much speaks to the difference between Dems and Republicans.......

Time will tell if Ensign and Sanford resign. After all Sanford was with his honey on Fathers Day while his 4 children wondered where dad was. At keast Clinton always made it home for the holidays. A major difference between the parties. Your party needs to give the family time to heal.

Somantics. Words have meanings!! I ahve come to beleive that the republicans left him in office so that OwlGore counld't run as a true incumbent.

That's great that Billy made it home for the holidays. Is that how you rationize his infidelity. I just hope they sanitized the toilet seats after he left. And Billy still remains popular with most of the left. I can assure you the South Carolina governor will not be so fortunate.

The gov's wife and family have known of his affair for months. It is jsut that they chose to try to keep it private. I am NOT justifying his behavoir, but just using this as yet another example of how you guys spout off at the mouth without knowing what you are talking about.

If the 'press' would spend a fraction of the time devoted to exposing Samford to exposing the 'facts' about the messiah he would have gone down in flames years ago.

Both are done as candidates of national prominence.....at least for a long, long time. To quote H. Ross Perot who fired any employee involved in adultery...."If their spouse can't trust them, I can't trust them."
