Since this seems to happen every year....

Please be sure to take a few minutes to secure your pets over this coming weekend. There are a number of folks that do their own fireworks and there always seems to be a rash of lost dogs the next day.

The noise freaks them out and they run for cover. A lot of people are visiting and sometimes the dogs have collars with i.d. on them and other times they don't. Be sure your dog has his rabies tag as the vet's office will be on there and the number on that tag will make it easy to identify your pet.

Both of our dog's have i.d. tags with their name and our contact number. I know that there are differences in opinion as to whether you should have your dog's name on the tag...

Hope everyone has a safe 4th of July and that no one loses a beloved pet.

I would also recommend that if you do lose your pet, not only post on here, but call the local vets and let them know. That is how we reunited a few in the past couple of years - by calling the vet in Dadeville.

If you call your vet he/she can provide you with some 'doggie downers' that will placate the pets through experience. It is really good to take the stress away from them for the day/night. Just becasue they are hidden under the bed, or wherever, doesn't mean they aren't experiencing the stress of the situation.

We used the dog chill pills during the early June storms for our goldens, they really helped them a lot!

Good point. I think I will consider it since My GSP (a bird dog no less) is scared to death of guns, gun fire and explosives. My coonhound could hardly care less.

See Swimmer, you can make valid post which I respect. Thank You~

Fireworks and firecrackers can also freak out cats. Best to secure your indoor cat into an enclosed room, as they can bolt out the door when they get scared.

Doggie Downers as you say is nothing more than the infamous MOTHER'S LITTLE HELPER:

What a drag it is getting old
"Kids are different today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
Mother needs something today to calm her down
And though she's not really ill
There's a little yellow pill
She goes running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And it helps her on her way, gets her through her busy day

90% of lost dogs without TAGS do not return home. If you care about your dog you won't play those odds.
