Had a free weekend. On saturday I went to West Point lake to go swimming for a day. No problem, nice lake but costs $3 for COE ramp fee. Sunday I went to lake Martin to go swimming. I love Lake Martin! There's no ramp fee and the lake was not very busy. But after swimming today, I now have a severe nasal congestion that can only be attributed to the waters of lake Martin. Before we sold our lake house a few years ago, I was getting the severe congestion after every swim in lake martin. Is curious that it does not occur after swimming in West Point lake which is sometimes referred to as Atlanta's septic tank. I feel the development around lake Martin is out of control, and the county health departments need to evaluate failing on site domestic waste water treatment systems and the permitting of new systems. Anybody else have allergic reactions after swimming in Lake martin?

Well I have not done any test you see but Lake Martin is the only lake I know in the state I can see over 12 feet to he bottom when snorkeling. You may just have a allergy to clean water.

I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure that the incubation period for whatever bacteria got into your sinuses is more than 12-24 hours. That being said, your congestion is probably not due to Lake Martin, maybe not even West Point Lake. Really no way of telling where it came from.

Given that everybody's system is different, it may well be possible you react to this area. Far as I know, every water test indicates Lake Martin is very clean. If none of your neighbors have problems, it might just be you. If your neighbors do, there may be a localized problem that needs looking into.

hate to be a downer BUT....my husband and his wakeboarding buddy have severe sinus problems after surfing! we are usually in Sandy Creek and Hog Pen. you are not alone.

Nope...they are not alone. I have never had any allergies of any kind except when I jump in beautiful lake martin. My head stops up in record time when I jump in. I keep a steady diet of Claritin D around though...not staying out of the lake!!

One of my brothers has complained of the same thing. He can swim anywhere else with no problems, but Lake Martin gets his nose running. I have never had any problems, however.
