We will begin enforcement in the Idle Speed Only zone on Thursday. Idle Speed Only will mean Idle Speed Only for all boats - including PWCs. This is necessary due to the congestion we anticipate and primarily in order to prevent accidents and to reduce the risks created by careless operators.

The Boats Keep Out Zone has been changed. It will be clearly marked by buoys and is in place around the swimming area. No boats means no boats - the safety of the swimmers is paramount. The cove in front of the Church in the Pines will not be restricted as previously planned. It will be open to all boats and will probably be one of the safest avenues for boaters to drop off people wanting to go ashore or reach the swimming area.

We will have patrol boats stationed strategically througout the entire Idle Speed Only zone and at the end of the event we plan to station patrol boats across Kowaliga bay as we do on the 4th of July to facilitate the safe flow of traffic.

We encourage everyone to slow down, keep a proper lookout and excercise as much courtesy as possible. The designated operator concept works on the water very well - we encourage all operators to refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages. Also, 21 is the legal age to possess or consume alcoholic beverages.

The district office will not be manned during these 4 days as all available personnel will be working the event. If you need our assistance we are dispatched through the Alex City Trooper Post at (256) 234-7311.

I asked this question earlier and didn't get a reply. What does one do to get arrested for reckless endangerment? Thanks.

The Marine Police would not happen to have a observer position for a camera operator on one of the boats to document the event for the state and there future training programs would they?

Just trying.
Heather.

If boats can't moor until Friday, and If nothing is happening until then, why is the No Wake Zone being enforced on Thursday?

Section 13A-6-24
Reckless endangerment.
(a) A person commits the crime of reckless endangerment if he recklessly engages in conduct which creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury to another person.

(b) Reckless endangerment is a Class A misdemeanor.

(Acts 1977, No. 607, p. 812, §2115.)

We can't comment on the specifics of pending criminal cases but in this particular instance the charges resulted from an incident involving two groups of boaters.

We do honor media requests provided the proper releases are signed through our Montgomery office well in advance. We do numerous media ride-alongs throughout the year but they are most often short in duration - at Aquapalooza we will have limited space in our boats due to extra equipment and additional personnel.

No one said boats can't moor until Friday. I don't believe the event organizers are placing their mooring lines until Friday, but we anticipate people mooring at other places in the area as early as Thursday, if there aren't already some there as of this writing.

Scenerio 1: I'm jug fishing in a boat. My adult son is steering the boat only. Does he need a fishing license?

Scenerio 2: I'm trolling with several poles. Do passengers have to have fishing licenses?

If gigantic areas of the lake are designated as No Wake Zones because it's thought that many boats might moor there, why isn't the entire area around The Rock a No Wake Zone?

If the area in front of Chimney and Acapulco Rocks was made a no wake zone, boat that were just passing thru would go on the other side of the islands, under the bridge. But this would make the water unpleasantly rough along the shoreline, and that shoreline is now part of The Ridge. Less than desirable water means lower selling prices for those lots. No, this isn't speculation, there were discussions and meetings about this very problem.

I know a lot of boats have good bumpers, but what exactly is "jug fishing"? I think it sounds like a good idea.

There are normally plenty of bumpers at the Rock.

Sounds like it could be a VERY hazardous pastime for me if my wife was not participating with me, or if I were to try to jug fish with more than two jugs.

What kind of equipment do you use for "jug fishing"?

Just a rod, no reel, and certainly no line - a birds nest might prove to be fatal.
