Good news today as former Rep William Jefferson LA was convicted of 11 counts stemming from hiding $90,000 in his freezer. He faces more than 20 years in prison after being found guilty of bribery, racketeering, money laundering and wire fraud. It's nice when you see justice regardless of political party.
I guess the moral is to beware of anyone who tries to pay you will cold hard cash.

as he is known in New Orleans would have never been convicted in that fair city, but a Virginia jury got him. I'm sure he'll appeal on racial discrimination grounds. Interesting fact is now the Feds will go after his family members, the recipients of the bribes from Africa.
BTW, Ray Nagin, wonderful mayor of New Orleans is next in line for the Feds. Couldn't happen to a nicer group of politicians. Now if the Feds would just start cleaning up Chicago.

What is your evidence that Chicago is a mess. Being an architect I sometime read publications concerning urban issues and the consensus is that Chicago is a "city that works" and is one of the better run cities in America. Certainly better than Birmingham.

Birmingham/Jefferson County are jokes. The cost of doing business in this area has the bribe markup included. Mayor Langfraud has a trial this month - may be some good news. They do not however, have the long history of corruption as Chicago. Give them time though.

crime rate, school drop outs, SAT scores, number at poverty level, corruption in the city, ability to attract new businesses, etc, etc. Pretty easy to find the rankings. All things Obama and the dems say they are going to fix nationally, yet cities they have control are some of the worst in the nation.
Have been there many tmes and done business there for a long time.
They have great restaurants though.

Neither of the sources you posted address any of the issues listed above.
I'm not lazy ... I did google and found lots of interesting information about Chicago and Illinois ... just none that easily support your statement above.

But to use your logic, Illinois is 43rd, and next came Georgia, and then South Carolina - so that elminates Lindsay Graham. Then came Louisiana, so there goes Bobby Jindal. Next worst was Florida, so we eliminate Charlie Crist and Jeb Bush.

Actually, in 2007, Illinois had higher average SAT scores than both Arizona (McCain)and Massachusetts (Romney). Of course, it doesn't really matter, since "The College Board cautions against ranking states by scores. The reason: Scores vary greatly by how many students take the exam. The more who take it, the lower the state's score is likely to be." As is the case with Massachusetts.

how you want to spin. My point was they are close to the bottom in almost any category you look at when they have always been under democrat leadership. If Obama and his cronnies claim to have all the answers for the nation, why wasn't Chicago at or near the top in everything since they had the ability all these years to put their policies in place and show they worked.
I guess they think they will work nationally, even though they have not worked on a smaller scale.
The comparisions you make have not had republican leadership forever. In fact even those have been mostly democrat. Chicago has been ONLY run by democrats ... NEVER a republican. So they have NO ONE to blame for failed policies other than liberal democrats.
Stop showing your ignornace and read what someone posts and respond accordingly. It is so frustrating. Liberals never stay on topic and are like childen ... what about this ... when it is not even relavant to the conversation.

Once again, you are twisting the facts to meet your opinions. If you look at the states that have similar or lower participation rates you will see that they are mostly rural states. And other than Chicago, Illinois is a very rural state. Also, there are many colleges that don't use the SAT for admittance, they use the ACT. So if the school you want to attend doesn't use the SAT, then you don't take the test. I didn't - I took the ACT.

Current governor of Illinois, Democrat Pat Quinn. His predecessor, Democrat Rod Blagojevich will probably end up in jail on corruption charges. His predecessor, Republican George Ryan, currently serving a 6.5 year prison sentence for corruption. His predecessors, Republicans Jim Edgar and James Thompson. So since January of 1977, Illinois has had three Republican governors spanning 26 years, and two Democrat governors, spanning 6.5 years. Do you ever check any of your "facts" before you post them?

When I asked for sources to back up your statement, you posted two sources. One talked about Chicago (and actually talked mostly about the steps Chicago has taken to lower their crime rates, even though they are still higher than NY and LA) and the other was about the state of Illinois (Illinois ranks 43rd for number of black male students graduating from high school, report finds) So if your original post refers only to Chicago, then I again ask you to post the sources that show that Chicago's crime rate, drop-out rate, etc, etc is worse than other large cities. Heck WW ... you may be right, I just would like to see some sources that back up your position, since I have been unable to find them. Thanks.
