I would like to introduce myself on the forum. My name is Dave Smith and I own Spider Be Gone Systems of Central Alabama. I install an automatic spray system that kills all flying and crawling insects. I live on Logan Martin lake and have been installing the systems for 5 years here. You may have seen my new ad on the home page and the forum page, it's the only animated ad. Click on the ad or the listing to go to my web site. Have a Spider Be Gone System installed on your house and dock and start enjoying your house like you never have before.
I am growing the company to cover Lake Martin as I have been focusing on Logan Martin. All of my customers here LOVE the system as it eliminates those nasty spiders, spider webs, and spider droppings. Everyone of you know what I'm talking about, those black spots on you boat seats, dock, house windows, siding, where ever you look, you see signs of spiders. But this system works on all other insects as well. If it flies or crawls, the system will take care of it.
Before I started advertising on Lakes Online, I never went to the home page to look at the companies that advertise their services but do now on a regular basis. Support those companies as they are the ones that help give you this forum. Also, I welcome any input you may have to help me get the word out about my company.
You can contact me at the following:

Thanks, Dave Smith

I fail to see an automatic problem with a new advertiser making a tasteful, introductory post. I have now looked at his ad that I might have over looked otherwise. I like bugs and would probably never utilize his system, but it is an interesting concept

If he makes the mistake of others' before and in his excitement posts too much, then we will all let him know. Hopefully, before he alienates reasonable folks.

If he is smart, he will stop with that introduction and let it stand on it's own. A brief introduction and done.

This could be avoided if there were a "vendor post 1ntroductory" area (Hey Bruce, need another project?) Otherwise, how is someone new to the forum going to know the official or un-official etiquette.

It there an area like that and I missed it? I donno.

Anyway, everything will _iss off someone. How is a new advertiser or member to know? I keep telling my wife and daughters that I can't read their minds either.

Anyway, the guy is seeing your responses and has no idea what he has done wrong or how to respond, and probably wondering why he spent his money to advertise here.

I have total empathy for his position. He needs education not a stick shoved in his eye.

agree with you on this subject. I see nothing wrong with one preemptive post. Now, if it becomes a regular thing that would tend to get a different reception from me.

Crappy :)

I've got about 4,000 different kinds of spiders available for your immediate loving. Please call to arrange for pickup (catching). LOL

LOL.....Thank You, Wix! That is a very kind offer! I will let you know when I can be there after emptying a few Mason Jars and find the lids.

Actually, my bugs and the things that eat them seem to have reached a nice balance. The number of bugs seems constant and not growing, and the birds and lizards seem to be in a happy state. If I brought in more bugs, I would either have to increase the predator population or call Bama Dave. Either way, that is more trouble and expense than just leaving the existing equilibrium in place. Thus, I have to turn down your very kind offer.

You know, this predator/food supply cycle works in every phase of life. Maybe we can think of other application that might need either the food supply or predator level prematurely adjusted.

Any thoughts? I think I will do an off-topic thread to pick this up there.

Wix, thanks again for the offer!

..dadgum it...can't keep my mouth shut here...just basically don't believe in eliminating ALL bugs--flying or crawling...I could let you slide for zapping a few mosquitos electronically but spraying poisonous material into the air to indiscriminately
eliminate insects is WRONG!! What happens on up the food chain with such a system....would not want to be a bluebird in these times!

I have been quite critical of advertisers in the past who are not PAID advertisers and supporters of the forum. Personally, I think a paid advertiser should be entitled to an intial post describing their business.

I would also second a special thread titled Advertisers that Bruce limits to PAID who support the forum. He can give each a special unique number that they enter to post. They can post specials, discounts for Forum members, etc.

Nothing eats spiders. I've got at least two lizards/sq ft, they're all fat and happy and seem to get along fine with the spiders. Only way I've found to kill spiders is hunt at night. I take a can of that 20ft wasp killer and a flash light and shoot 'em when they're in the center of the web.

Hate to walk into a big, unseen web while I'm huntin'; then I turn into the hunted.

I apologize for upsetting folks here. Maybe I should have read the rules a little closer before introducing myself. I truly felt since I have paid several hundred dollars to advertise here, it would not be a problem introducing myself one time. I visit Lakes Online several times a day, on Logan Martin Lake forum, which part of this forum shares, to keep up with happenings on my lake.B
I only posted the introduction to help steer someone to the business section on the home page. I am guilty of coming straight to the forum page instead of going to the home page first. I didn't know what I'd been missing by going directly to the forums, after all, that's where the good stuff is. But it is the advertisers here that make this forum free to enjoy.
I did get a cold shoulder a first and the realized some get their feathers ruffled pretty easily. I promise nobody here will ever see another post from me regarding my business. Again, I apologize sincerely. Dave

Whoa. Think I'd rather have spiders. Might sprain my ankle stomping a cat. Not crazy about cats; too independent.

Bama Dave, welcome to Lake Martin forum and thank you for being willing to spend some of your valuable advertising budget to support this forum, which then enables us users of the forum to enjoy it for free.

Again, thank you!

I am sure there are PLENTY of folks around this lake that hate spiders and bugs and will want to use your services. The system looks very cool, BTW.

I have friends on Logan Martin and I sure hope this initial exposure to us here will not discourage you from expanding your business here, as well.

I wish you wisdom and good fortune with your business.

Now, when are you gonna come down, grill out, drink some refreshment and visit? We gots lots of opportunity for you to come join the party!

lol,Considering I have a daughter that is a senior there, maybe I should change my name. Lee Corso put the name on bamadave on me 17 years ago. My real job is the video engineer for ESPN's College GameDay Show. If anyone goes to a game where Gameday is, find the set and ask any of the crew for bamadave and I'll give you the nickel tour. 4 weeks and I'll be in Atlanta for our opening show, Alabama vs Virginia Tech.

Welcome to Lake Martin! I hope your business does great! How does your product work on roaches? I can handle spiders.....but roaches give me the willies!
I love watching Game Day too, especially when Auburn is on. I hope you have lots of fun this football season. Be sure to tell Lee Corso.......WAR EAGLE!

This cat acts more like a dog than a cat. The cat is my 9 year daughter's, so, getting rid of it is pretty much out the window. (and I don't mean car window : ) )

Since making my mis-informed judgment previously in this post, I have learned more and support Dave fully. I do agree that we should support our advertisers here since they pick up the tab. Good luck, Dave, in this endeavor and keep up the good work on Gameday!!

...and once you tell everyone you are connected with ESPN/GameDay..everyone wants to do business with you. I don't care. I agree there should be a forum for advertisers. On the the "Lake Martin Topics" an advertiser could say "check me out"...nothing more.
