Lamont mentioned that Christopher's "Gumbo and Grits" was on the Alabama top 100 must-eat dishes. Can we come up with a Lake Martin top 100 (or top 20) must eat dishes? Several have been mentioned. Maybe we can compile a list and jlazc can post it on Lake Martin facebook. Indicate cost range of the dishes you mention.

My tenure at the lake is less than 90 days, but have eaten at Christopher's and have to put the sushi tuna close to the top of a 100 list.

As a side and addition to the other posts regarding dining, I've eaten at Niffers and won't go back unless it's on someone elses tab. I had salmon and it was like eating cardboard - they cooked it as long as you'd cook a well done steak. I've been to Oakars as well and it's just like any other meat and three place I've eaten - not special. LMOB is "ok" but wouldn't make a special trip.

So for me and my limited time, it's Christopher's without a doubt.

My thought has always been that some of the LM Forum dishes that members have posted have sounded a lot better than anything from a nearby restaurant. I had planned to search the archive and add those to the list....like Stone cooked BGE pizza by jlazc, or BBQ Brunswick Stew by Mack, or Finger-licking Boston Butt by Maddog.

So, members feel free to offer up your best dish, and we can definitely come up with a Lake Martin top 100.

Why don't you have us all over -- heck, we'll even give you $10 a head, and you can cook and we'll rate all your dishes... LOL

BBQ plate at Red Hill Cafe. Your choice of sides. It's all good.

Have been by it many times on the way to Wetumpka and Mont'gomery. Sorry if I revealed your little secret. Or perhaps you're afraid I would go there? Not likely.

Any small serving of Blue Belle Ice Cream from any convenience store at the lake. My personal favorites are cookies and cream or chocolate chip cookie dough. :)

I will second the Truman’s catfish (catfish is great but you have to accept eating with plastic forks) but will also add the banana and/or chocolate puddings at Mama Ella’s.

Funny you should mention the pudding at Mama Ella's. I was just going to add that. I think the banana pudding edges out the chocolate....

I haven't been to Trumans since we moved to the east side of the lake, but I think it is only open on Thursday through Saturday evenings. The seafood platter is wonderful and will feed 2 if you order an extra potato!!LOL The home made desserts are excellent and just that....homemade. :)

Don't order something like that at Niffers. Niffers is a good, fun cheap burger joint. Salads are a good value too. But don't challenge the cooks. This is a burger and chicken place not a "restaurant" with a innovative menu. Where else can you eat lunch for $6 including drink? And hey <$2 beer!

Oscars? They have a great wood grilled burger and do fried really well.

These are local well-run affordable establishments. But don't get too fancy. You wouldn't order sushi at the Waffle House would you?

Have you noticed that they are kicking up the flavors in the chicken dishes? I tried a chicken enchilada this week and I think they have found the adobo sauce. It was pretty dang good. The only criticism I have had for them is the food can be a little bland. Otherwise Long Live Posada!!!!

Do you think Ella's is as good since it moved from Dadevillle RD?
