Here is a wonderful example of a well thought out response to the democrat health care give away. As expected, democrats are calling for a boycott of Whole Foods--doubt WF sees very many food stamps anyway. Watch this, looks like the idiots have found a cause.

WF is consistently rated very highly as a good place to work. I wonder what the average age of their workforce is? I'm thinking that satistically, they have a younger than average work force, and therefore most of them would not require the same kind of health benefits that an older workforce would need.
I used to frequent WF when I lived in VA, and it appeared to me that most of their employees are young, but those are just the ones I saw and not necessarily all those behind the scenes. But, not to take away from the article, because he makes some excellent points.
I haven't heard about the proposed democratic boycott of WF. I kinda doubt that one.

better watch out hound ... according to GF that is a rich republican market. I love it in Atlanta. Actually the guy that started whole foods is a very liberal 60's hippie. a very cool individual. I have heard him speak a few times. I would be surprised if dems boycotted him ... although he has gotten a taste of capitalism, which can covert even the most liberal hippie from the 60's.

The actual demographic for a typical customer is proberly closer to a 50yr old, affluent, white, former Hot Babe Lib. I would suggest that you will see a retraction that will state the views were that of the CEO and not the Company. It is dangerous to mix politics and business when you are a CEO in a specialty business and imply that it is the view of the Company. It is a position that you cannot win unless you are a Catholic bookstore and write you are against abortion and gay rights.
Many of his points I agree with. I think you would find most of his employees are young and do not use much of their benefits. The use of an HSA with a high deductible is a good way for a Company or Individual to keep down the cost. The only drawback is that some do not seek medical treatment to save the money in the HSA. Nothing is perfect.

Okay, that really surprises me. But, I'm surprised about something every day, so I guess this is my surprise for today.
I find it amusing that someone would boycott a market because the CEO expressed his views about health care reform, but there you go. Living on LM full-time, I only wish I had the option to decide to boycott WF or not. Love WF.

Mr Mackey's proposals, in my mind, stand the tests of logic and reason. I especially like the high deductible idea, especially if coupled with a Health Care Flexible Spending Account so paying for that deductible could be spread evenly throughout the year from tax-free payroll deductions.
And, he is absolutely right that many of our health problems are directly attributable to the fact that Americans eat and drink too much of the wrong things. My experience living in Turkey and Korea, and spending almost enough time in Italy to say I have lived there is that there are very few fat Turks, Koreans, or Italians.
Bravo to Mr Mackey for speaking his mind, and like Hound I do not understand why someone would boycott WF because of his views. That seems like the boycotters are cutting off their nose to spite their face, because WF is one place where you can get fresh, wholesome foods.
Reckon we are going to get some significant rain from the TD in the Gulf or the two storms in the Atlantic?

I am not surprised of a boycott when you p*** off your major market. Sell short Whole Foods. I wonder how many of you on the RIGHT would boycott a chain you use if the owner supported in an editorial abortion and gay rights????

this AM, I welcome Mr. CEO of Whole Foods comments. You know, our elected officials are idiots. I hear some of them talk and wonder how they possibly stay in office. At least they got rid of Dick Armey (sp?) and Tom Dashle. They need to get rid of Rangl, I don't think I've ever heard an intelligent thing come out of his mouth.
One interesting thing that CBS Sunday Morning had on was a segment about the French health care system. It's rated one of the best in the world and costs citizens about $3400 a year, which is half of what it costs per person in the US and we still don't have everyone covered. They also have Drs. that make house calls for about $65 a visit. Their approach to health care is different than ours. Don't know if it would work here, but at this point, I think it's a good idea to take a look at the pluses and minuses of everyone's approach to health care.

GF, there are a great many companies that support things I don't agree with like Planned Parenthood, gay marriage, etc. and I always ignore the occasional call for boycotts. I think they are counterproductive and rarely work. I also think that most rational people will ignore these calls and their business will actually increase because more conservatives will shop there. I know I will and I have forwarded this to all my friends. So maybe for every one loony tunes leftist they lose they will pick up a conservative, who knows? They probably only go there for the free food samples anyway and secretly buy their food from Super Wal Mart or Costco.....just don't tell their friends..

Dick Armey was easily reelected eight times to Congress and retired. He wasn't thrown out like Daschle. I agree that Rangel needs to go but he will never lose in his district and frankly with all his tax problems he needs to stay in Congress and keep his thumb on the IRS or he will end up in jail.

Sadly, they do not sell Kettle One vodka in Georgia at Whole Foods. I actually shop there occasionally. Great quality but expensive. My wife prefers Costco and Publix and bristles at the cost of things there. Having said that, it seems to be a great business model.
