Going down there for a week surrounding Labor Day. I have not been down for 4 years which includes 3 cancellations due to Hurricanes, but, I still love the place.
Looking for "Earthy" places to eat good seafood, burgers and such. I mean really unhealthy food and brew that is fun and the dress code is "as is" you know? Kinda like Dusty's in PC Beach.
The OB web site is pretty much useless.
Come on, gimme' some good places besides FloraBama or LuLu's??
Thanks,
Mack

It has been several years since I was down too. There was a place on the main drag named "The Shrimp Basket". If it is still there, it might meet your requirements.

The Original Point was once good, but not the last few times I was there.

Mack, I suggest the three D's....DeSoto's, Doc's on Canal Road, and Daylight Donuts. I get Stuffed Shrimp at DeSoto's and the full blown platter including gumbo at Doc's.

Rafter's at the Wharf has some of the best food on the coast. Great beer and great "sports bar" type environment, perfect for Labor day weekend considering college football starts. They have an indoor virtual golf game you can rent by the hour, use real clubs and play real courses (pebble beach, augusta, etc.). Desoto's, as others have said, is also great.

Desoto's and Rafter's owners are brothers.

The Shrimp Basket is a good one. Raw oysters were good. Their fried shrimp are great, best I've had in a while. The fried crawfish tails are good too. Ice cold beer and hot waitresses doesn't hurt either. Desoto's is ok. Their raw oysters were not good. Might be an isloated incident. Warm and fishy. The only thing good at Sea and Suds is the osyters. Live Bait has a killer grilled Mahi Mahi and the the crab claws in butter and garlic are awesome too. You have to like garlic because there is tons on them. I forgot the name of the restaurant on the downstairs part at Orange Beach Marina but last time I ate there it was good too. Doc's stinks. The only thing good there is the salad bar.

Oh yeah, the fried shrimp at the Shrimp Basket are as good or better than Dusty's.

Whoops, Dos'c on Canal is good. I am thinking of some place on Gulf Shores Parkway. I think it was called Doc's too. I also recommend getting a 5lb bag of royal reds from Guld Shores Seafood company and boiling those bad boys up in a little "Swamp Dust" with some corn, potatoes, and sausage. There fresh tuna is good too. Marinate it in some Wasabi, soy sauce and honey. Roll in some sesame seeds and sear it on the outside.

Glad you corrected that P'fisher. I was about to take issue with you.

Hey, Mack, I suggest you just take Pontoonfisher with you as chef.

I get down that way several times a year. Fishing and eating out are the two things I look forward to down there. My suggestions:

Cobalts is on the eastern side of the Perdido pass, right under the bridge. Real nice place, serve oysters many different ways. Grouper is phenominal.

Genos is probably my favorite. Its in the old Zeke's restaurant building at Zekes marina. Good specials, incredible sushi.

King Neptunes up in Gulf Shores is great. Large menu selection, reasonably priced, you can go in your bathing suit.

If you have access to a boat, Pirates Cove up in the back water has great burgers. Kind of inconvinient if you don't have a boat.

Your input gives us some good choices. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
Now, anybody know any good Breakfast places there? I mean the old fashioned kind with eggs any style, grits, biscuits, sausage gravy, pancakes, bacon, good sausage, >>>
I have asked "locals" the same question while there before, and invariably, I get a Hardees or MACbiscuit recommendation??
I know I sound like all we do is eat at the beach, but good, fun meals are a big part of our vacations. Just like the in-condo lunch menu of boiled shrimp, Cheetos, Cheesits, Pork Rinds, Beer, salted nuts, sandwich wraps, followed by a nice nappy time, before going back down to the beach. So, there!

Hazel's, a Gulf Shores/Orange Beach tradition. The location in Gulf Shores (near Walrmart) is smaller than the one in Orange Beach. They have an excellant breakfast buffet and made to order omelet station. I prefer the one in Orange Beach b/c the buffet is bigger but the food quality is excellant at both locations. Great morning stop after a night of boozing at Florabama!!!!

I also heard that Nolan's has reopened down near Papa Rocco's on 59. Nolan's used to be a great casual place and the dancing was great. I have heard good things about the new one.

Nolans has re-opened. On Hwy 59 just across from King Neptune.
