We should all remember the thousands who died for their country on this day in 2001. Many left their homes that day not knowing that it would be their last day and others gave their lives to try and save their fellow Americans, while our enemies cheered. Have we forgotten?

Most have not forgotten... But we are the ones with no media behind us. I, for one, will never forget the generosity shown towards me. I was a volunteer firefighter at the time. I had people everywhere I went thanking me for doing the job I volunteered for. It was a great feeling at such a terrible time for our country.
Some say we did it to our selves... others say we deserved it... All I know is that the ones who died were innocent citizens.....

Although most of US will never forget - I was watching the news when the second plane hit - I think WE as a country have forgotten. Thoughts to those who perished, and those who have or are currently facing death each day so that the rest of us do not. Remember our armed forces and their families.

I am sitting in the exact same place. I also was watching. God Bless.

From my office window, I could see the smoke billowing up out of the Pentagon. Standing next to me was a fellow worker, and we simply could not believe what was happening.

Little did either of us know that his Brother had just perished in the Pentagon.

My heart dropped seeing it on TV, I cannot imagine watching it unfold in person. My wife and I were at her Dad's house, about 3 hours from home and were travelling light. We packed up, made a stop for supplies and high-tailed it home. I hope we never face that again.

I don't think anyone has forgotten. I had a meeting with some people from Lockheed. They had just gone past the Pentagon right before the plane hit. They got to our office and knew something had happened but didn't know what. We never had that meeting -- we just sat around the conference table stunned. We all knew people working there. Reports kept coming in that the State Department had been bombed and we all knew people there too.

People that knew I had worked there, called me on the phone that night to make sure I was okay.

I didn't go to the Pentagon for about a week. By the time I got there, they had already boarded up along the damnaged part of the building, but they couldn't make the awful smell go away, and they certainly could not erase the fact that people had died there. A friend who worked in Crystal City (adjacent to the Pentagon) said that papers and debris were blowing around the streets.

A few weeks after that we had the Antrax scare (our offices had to be swept because we received mail from the State Department mail room) and then there were the snipers.
It was an awful Fall.
