It probably is not in the Obamacare bill to cover illegals (sorry undocumented people) but who is to say that after Obamacare gets shoved on us that they don't give amnesity to all of them.

Illegals now have coverage and will continue to have this same coverage. No need to wonder or think Obama is lying. Any illegal can go to an emergency room and obtain coverage. They cannot be turned away. Clains are, for the most part, absorbed by the hospital who receive state or federal money for charity care. Additionally, the charges that you or your carrier pay at the hospital are higher to pay for charity care. This cost is then passed on to you in the form of higher premiums. It is not Obamacare, it was here under Bush, Clinton,
Bush Sr, Reagan, as long as illegals have been in our country.

While you are correct today ... that is what Obama said he would address by checking ID's. To me that is nothing unless he says what happens next.
1. ID's can be fake so it needs to be an electronic system like a fingerprint database that when you get medical insurance you are required to be fingerprinted. would solve other problems too.
2. So is he proposing to then turn them away? I guess it depends on how serious. But I say treat, handcuff and deport including children is they come in with a parent that is illegal. If there is a leagal US citizen the child can stay with, then the parent can decide.

One thing (among many) that I have never understood .... Obama says his plan won't cover illegal immigrants ... others say that the plan will cover illegal immigrants ... my question ... what does Obama gain by covering illegal immigrants? Why would he provide coverage to illegals?

But Rude ... GW Bush was for an amnesty program ... so this can't be just an Obama thing ... I just don't see how any politician gains by giving illegals health coverage ... Obama has said over and over that his health reform plan won't cover illegals ... so if it ends up covering them ... it will be the ultimate GHW Bush "read my lips" moment ... I just don't get it.

I agree, though I don't remember the particulars of his proposal........although he also coupled it with a guest worker program that would deal with the continuing immigration issue, which made sense to me..........

Don't you get it, he is saying they will not be covered by insurance when in fact they would so he is lying. Why, you ask? Because a) he knows that covering illegals is wildly unpopular; and b) if he can get it through he will gain the allegiance of more hispanics (remember, if you rob from Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on the support of Paul). This is the first tenet of liberalism, get 50% of the electorate beholden to the federal government in some form or fashion and you will be assured of their vote. D'Toqueville warned us that our undoing would be through the soft tyranny of statism and that is where Obama is rushing to take us.

We really need to be careful here to distinguish between coverage and access to health care. Yes, illegals currently have access to health care regardless of whether they have insurance or not or can afford to pay for services. What they do not have is the legal right to access Medicade and Medicare and Americans overwhelmingly oppose giving them access to taxpayer funded health insurance. So GF is wrong when he says they have "coverage".
He is right that we are already paying for them because hospitals (where they frequently go for care) pass these unpaid services along to paying customers through higher prices (i.e., it is one reason 2 tylenol in a hospital cost $9). As a society I believe we have a moral obligation to provide critical care but not primary care to illegals and others that do not have insurance (i.e., we should differentiate between treating a cold and treating pnuemonia). I also think it is a fair argument to say that the emergency room is not the most cost effective place for illegals to get their primary care. But is extending them the right to taxpayer funded insurance the right solution? I would say that the vast majority of Americans have already spoken on that matter and the answer is no. There are a number of proposals to address this problem that do not involve providing them with taxpayer funded insurance.
Having said all this, it is obvious that Obama was lying about this issue and regretfully Joe Wilson's boorish outburst has caused them to change their approach and hopefully the President will stop lying to the American people about this.
As a side note, it appears that the leftists in Congress are going to move forward with some form of sanctions. Even some on the far left think this is a mistake as does Obama. If they do this it will probably be the best thing to ever happen to the guy and will only highlight that the post-partisan world we were promised when Dems controlled the two branches of government was a fiction.
