we all know that if you have a boat, at some point you will need to be towed. it happened to me (again)back in july. the ignition switch went out on my 29 year old boston whaler. i had it repaired locally at a marina on the lake. the good news: the folks fixed the switch. the bad news: all the gauges, the radio and electric choke did not work any more. i was told by their mechanic "sorry". he could not fix it without totally ripping out all the wiring and for me to bring it back in the off season when they were not busy. it could be fixed for (an additional) 600.00. rather than argue and run the risk of not having my boat any further (they already had it 2 weeks) i paid them for the switch and got out of there.

i floated in the lake for a couple of weeks and decided i could not keep operating the boat like that. based upon some of the threads i read in the past on this messace board, i contacted CAT. we decided it was best for me to bring it to his shop. i brought it in one afternoon and he phoned me the very next day to come pick it up! it was FIXED. he even fixed some stuff that he saw needed attention that i didn't ask him to! plus, a complimentary test drive in the river to make sure everything worked right!

i was surprised to know that CATHOUSE performance marine not only works on high performance watercrafts, but also pontoons and bassboats too. he and his staff certainly breathed another life into my old boat.

where we get our cars serviced, buy tires, have appliances fixed, heating and cooling repairs, just about any kind of repair service....i usually just hope to not get screwed too bad.

i have found my new boat repair service and feel very lucky to have made this discovery. VERY, VERY professional folks. it was apparent from talking back and forth with them that not only CAT, but his whole staff were genuinely concerned with the customer.

thanks for yall's reccomendation.

You're gonna give CAT the big head!!! : )
No, really...I, too think that CAT is the best... and he has never seen me or my boat. but has offered priceless advice (well really worth about three hundred dollars!)

Hope all is well down south!!

Well, it make sense that Cat wouldn't want a bootyrunner to be non-operational for any length of time!

The local mechanics said " entire wiring" bring back in the off season, so they were painting a big timely task. If Cat did it so quickly, was it fuses? one broken wire? what. Inquiring minds want to know.

Being that NO previous repair center is mentioned, I'll offer an answer. (It would not be in good taste otherwise) First off, the switch was not properly wired, therefore not sending 12volts to where it is suppose too. Also, one wire was left off that feeds a junction where many other wires feed from. It appeared that in an attempt to get power they (whoever that may be) somehow connected the bow running lights to the ignition switch so everytime bootyrunner cranked the boat the bow light came on. (I guess they figured he was crazy man and needed to see him coming, lol) NO wires were secure and just hanging loose under the dash (Don't know if it was that way before) and it only took a few minutes to make things look a little more professional. On a side note, to make sure there are no future problems we installed a secure battery box and remounted the powertrim pump and re-ran the wires for good measure. The best part of the day was when we took that classic Whaler for a test ride. The River is only about 2 miles away. I took the rest of the afternoon off, put two COLD Miller Lites in a small cooler and took that jewel for a 20 minute cruise. Adjusted on the carb a little bit so the old 150hp Black Max was purrin' and enjoyed the moment. Sorry for long post.

Steve

I am not busy today if anyone needs me call the shop. Otherwise, I may go to Clearwater and hang out with Mark.

Things around here have gotten strage. Unfortunately.... boating season is pretty much done here... Don't know when i or we will make it down there.
Sorry about the size limits thing. The only limits we have here are largemouth bass... must be 15 inches. : )
