I think there is a sweet spot for tariffs, the best being none for either country. Unfortunately other countries are already hitting us with higher tariffs than we charge them as an artifact of WW2. The thing that the "experts" didn't consider is that other countries have far more to lose with higher tariffs than we do and to the extent tariffs cause prices to rise on foreign made products Americans will buy American made ones. Hence the rush of foreign companies to move their manufacturing to the U.S. Results in more domestic jobs, higher wages, something we are already seeing. Even more importantly, foreign countries are lowering their tariffs on American made products in response which will also benefit American companies and workers.
