Up front about it - I am biased.

It sounds like you are looking at a full time residence as a retirement home. If true, then you have all avenues open. Some weekenders like to select a section of the Lake that is closest to their principal residence.

I like the section of the Lake that the maps at the bottom of this Forum describes as the Big Kowaliga area. That is Parker Creek, Oakachoy and Little Kowaliga Creek. I also like the section that is located in Coosa County. The advantage and/or disadvantage is that this area is a little more remote. There appears to be less traffic on the roads and on that section of the Lake.

You will find more restaurants and activity probably in the Dadeville area. Then you also need to consider whether you like a developent type community with an association or otherwise.

There are a lot of pros and cons based on your lifestyle and personal likes. I am with you on the gentle slope to the water with advancing age and associtated physical mobility.
