Feb, you know as well as I know that the piece by the Washington Compost was a hit job. That story could have been written during the Truman administration. The facility in question was an out patient facility, not the whole hospital. I can show you and do work in hospitals that I can guarantee you make WRAMC look like the Taj Mahal. And they're both private and eductational facilities. The care received at WRAMC is supposedly top rate. Overall, the facilities are old, but they are in a transition period, transferring patients down the street to a newer facility. Out patient facilities are always the last to be addressed during a transition because they don't treat in-patients. You didn't read this in the WaPo.
The WRAMC is not a VA hospital. It is a DoD hospital. Just like any hospital on an Army base. The SecDef is simply using this issue as a way to fend off Congress, do his job and put his own people in at the top. What bothers me the most is that I can show you where Murtha and Kerry within the past 3 years brag about their presence at WRAMC, visiting troops, holding pressors etc, but not once did they notice the condition of the facilities? Now that tells me one of two things.....either the facilities aren't as bad as the WaPo claims or they knew as well and failed to act.
This issue stinks to high heaven. I'm so sick and tired of the games played with politics. I know politics is a blood sport, but it generally serves a greater purpose for the betterment of our country. I'm not so sure it does now. Give our young men and women putting their lives on the line everything they deserve in the way of top notch health care and post combat support. But using them as pawns in grand political gamemanship is an abomination and shame on the WaPo, shame on Congress who has known about this for 30 years, and shame on us for burying our heads in the sand and continuing to reelect POLITICIANS instead of STATESMEN.
Peace, out.
